BMW lauches 1-Series site for US market. 1-Series soon to follow.

I need to be alone now.

looks cool, I know in europe they have tons of similar base series (audio, mercedes etc)

These cars will be snapped up in a hurry. I doubt you’ll be able to get one at the base of $35k, but even with a few options and closer to $40k, they look tight and will be pretty quick. As pointed out, a trip to Vishnu is all you need to go hunt down serious machinery…

I’ll pretend I didn’t see that! :confused

Well said. These things are looking to be a cult car before even coming out, I wonder how the lighter platform (compare to the 335i) will compare to the new ///M. I hear with a very relatively inexpensive chip the TT motor dyno’s some real crazy numbers.

:lol

I am lead to believe this won’t be much faster then the 335i from 0-60 or the 1/4 mile, though I think the light weight will improve handling and rolling acceleration. The problem with this car, is traction, its just not going to be able to get it to transfer the power to ground with out smoking the crap out of the tires. Or at least that’s what my gut tells me about this car, time will tell for sure. If it is in fact faster then the 335i, I think a lot of people are going to kick themselves in the ass about getting the 335i

Not quite. The 1-series won’t have a lot of the things the 3-series has. If someone bought the 335i or ci because of pure performance, than yes, they might regret it. Kinda like how the 5-series has things the 3 doesn’t.

BMW’s traction control system is very good, so I don’t think it’ll inhibit much on the 1. If anything it’ll really help it.

If they had the same target audience and actually were in the same class, maybe they’d be close in competition. But it’s not gonna be like some chump’s at a Mitsu dealer comparing it to the 135i.
You’re comparing apples to oranges.

I agree, those who bought the 335i with absolute maximum performance in mind probably won’t be upset, however, I know quite a few 335i owners who are concerned a 135i will be faster

Tractiong control won’t correct phsyics, loads of torque available at low RPMs, paired with light weight and relatively narrow and small diameter tires will equal low traction. Traction control may prevent the tires from spinning, but it will also reduce the speed in a commensurate fashion. Now a 135iX would probably give you whip lash when chipped, too bad it doesn’t exist.
