thats right, i forgot about him
Foose is the man.
i install hardwood floors…(not even close to the same thing) but i know how it goes trying to get customers. the stores i subcontract through will sometimes give us the shitty jobs just cuz they know we need the money. others will say no cuz they can get other jobs that arent rushed or the people are pricks. sometimes thats just the way things go and u gotta deal with the customers and do what they say. im sure he has that problem sometimes too…if u need to get customers u will take anything. hes prob not always busy since i know those cars are mad expensive and u can only get so many a month. but i think hes just protreyed as a dick on tv and thats whats makes his show go. just like american chopper…i mean honestly who doesnt watch that show for the fighting and bitching all the time? its hilarious
^^^ :word:
You have to remeber though that the show can be edited to make people look a certain way. Obviously, something wasn’t right at Boyd’s since those guys were leaving. However, unless you personally know them how do you know their background?
You just know how they look on TV.
I can give an honest input into this, since I met Boyd twice and Chip a ton of times.
Chip > Boyd x 100
I met up with both of them at SEMA 2004 and 2005.
Boyd had the personality of a grapefruit. He was signing autographs at a booth and seemed pissed to be there in the first place.
Then I went down the hall to meet up with Chip at the Overhaulin tent. First off, he is VERY hands on. He spend a good amount of time throughout and after the show working on the car. If he wasn’t working on the car, he was talking with people that were watching the build. We sat around and bs’ed with him for about 2 1/2 hours one night around 11pm talking about the business and anything else that would come up. One thing that you will want to watch is Overhaulin on TLC next Tuesday. The episode is called Overlord. Chip’s friends took his classic Ford pickup and Overhauled it on him without him knowing about it. Awesome truck. The truck was unveiled to him earlier that day and he was showing up pictures and describing the build. He had other stuff to do, but he made time to talk with his fans.
His dad, Sam Foose is also just as cool as Chip. Very nice and would talk to you forever. As for the guys that left Boyd’s shop, Charlie and Mike… Charlie was talking paint with us the same night. He would paint some panels and then have some time to kill so he was hanging out with us. Awesome guy with a great talent. Mike, never got to talk with him, but seemed the same as he was on tv.
I heard a few stories about Boyd while I was there and promised not to repeat them, but based on what I was told, Boyd is a true asshole that is only out for himself. They didn’t all have to do with cars, but it had to do with how he related with some people. If a person was to act the way to me like Boyd did to these people, he would have probably gotten a fist to the face.
And they don’t have to edit American Hotrod to make Boyd look mean. That’s his real personality. He’s lost more than a few guys from his shop than what you have seen.
My .02
Chip > *
just gotta say, after posting my huge rant about Boyd a few posts up, im very suprised that most people are somewhat agreeing with me…i was expeciting to be getting a lot of criticism and hate toward my way for saying some of that. so im actually plesently surpriesed. agaon, chip>boyd
I’ve seen both those shows…chip seems like a cool guy from the show…Boyd seems like a complete asshat.
no one’s jealous… if you were rich and had weed and got busted would those ppl who arrested you be jealous… or are they just arresting you because you broke the law… I’m pretty sure his leagal issues were because he broke the law… not because ppl were mad at his mad cash flow.
As for his cars, I dont like them… I think that they are too cookey cutter… I’ve heard that there are also a lot of issues with his cars because he doesn’t take the time to actually finish them properly… he takes on projects with timeframes taht are too short.
Actually true. I heard this about 2 of the cars at SEMA this year. Many driveability issues and mostly because they were rush jobs.
^^word thats y i could never build custom cars like that beacuse im always rushing stuff like that…i just want to see it get done
just =saw a post that said that jessie james also used to work for boyd, not sure if its accurate, but i wouldnt be surprised
