Drove about 5 feet and hear a large clunk. Driver’s front drops down, tire starts rubbing on the spring, blows tire quickly. I found a piece of the coil where I park overnight.
I have read that some stock WRX springs may fit, but I’m not familiar with Subarus at all. Anyone have any input? If anyone has any stock WRX springs laying around I’d be happy to throw those in and call it done. I’d rather not have to go to the dealer for a brand new overpriced part that they probably don’t have in stock.
lesbowagon is a 2000 Subaru Legacy Outback MT wagon.
honestly i would drop it if anything, that’s why i asked about the WRX springs. it looks like the Outback suspension is different than the standard Impreza though. pissss
i pulled the spring/strut on my own at Skyway, but they specifically asked me if i was going to be pulling it on my own first. they seemed protective as shit about everything. on the other hand, at M&M, you can fuck up everything in the way of your part with a hammer and a brick, and nobody cares.
That’s a great price, but seeing as it’s my daily, I needed something on the spot. I am pretty wary about the other springs following suit soon after, so when I finish my BMW, I owe the Subaru a good weekend or two of preventative maintenance. At the top of the list right now is DEFINITELY a timing belt, perhaps a coolant flush, definitely brakes all around. Lowering springs are super cheap for this car (like $220 even brand new for all 4) so I may just buy a set of those and kill two birds with one stone.
I do have to replace this tire though….riding on a donut space saver now (16”, though). I have no intention of replacing all four, but I will do the front axle to give the AWD system some mercy. Anyone have 2x 225/60/16 snow tires laying around with like 60% tread left?
