Buffalo Labatt Pond Hockey Tournament

What does everyone think about this tournament? I personally think it sucks. I have a couple points to make about this since I went to the US Pond Hockey Championships in Minnesota.

  1. They had no spots for outside teams to register because all of the teams are either corporate teams or teams from the performax hockey league at the Pepsi center. If you got lucky and knew someone playing then you could get in.

  2. The goals are so easy to score on. What are going to be the scores? 50-49?
In Minnesota the goals were the same length but on each side there was only 1 foot squares to score on.

  3. You only play 3 games and its only one day long.

  4. There are no boards. We had 1 1/2 foot boards in MN.

  5. And the WGR guys are a bunch of babies. “I’m so glad its not going to be so cold out tomorrow.” Man up guys. We played with a -10 temp out this year.

Some of my guys and myself from my team are going tomorrow to see how the teams are and we will be drinking our Molson and wearing our US Pond Hockey Gear. Good luck to anyone that is in the tourny.

yea i tried to get into it almost 2 months ago and was pretty pissed when i found out that basically it was an “invite only” type of event. oh well, they get to play in ~50degree weather, i hope the ice is nice and soft for them lol

I know. The ice is going to be terrible.

if someone wanted to make this legit it would be a buy in tournament with age divisions. $100 for a team of 4 or 5, kids divisions, old divisions, womens divisions, etc. make it so that the average joe and SUPPORTER of buffalo sports can play.

I’m bummed. I could have played and didn’t pursue it, and now I’m thinking “damn I’d rather play hockey than work tomorrow.” ah well

Exactly. They need to take notes from the Minnesota Pond Hockey Championships. They have 25 rinks with 2 other rinks that people can skate on, an Open Division, Rink Rat, Women’s, and Men over 30 or 40 i think. I cant wait to see what people say when we show up wearing all of our US Pond Hockey Gear.
