C5/LSX guys i need some help

Hey guys,
got a couple potential buyers for the camaro this weekend. If all goes well it might be gone. ill keep my fingers crossed.

that being said i have three C5 vettes that im very interested in, one of which is for sale in pennsylvania at a chevrolet dealership. This one is my favorite and the best car for the money IMO. Obviously i know these things will be very hard to determine through my description and pictures but im looking for some help before i waste a 3hour trip out there.
Backround:
it is a 2000 C5 z51 targa top 6spd car with 64kmi.

heres my issues i know these are equipped with an ls1, but a plate on the “polished” looking throttle body says LS6 (i know just about anyone can slap a plate or sticker on something) and at full operating temperature with the car idling the oil pressure gauge is at 80lbs.

These things seem strange, the car is at a dealership so mod list and things of that sort are not provided, i do know it is a 2 owner vehicle and odometer readings are true and whatnot thanks to carfax.

Is there any way to tell from the pic i have attached if this is an ls1 or and ls6 (im a bit embarassed to ask, being a chevy guy so take it easy on me) and also does anyone know if the gauge clusters in these cars are fucked like on so many of the gm trucks, because that would explain the crazy oil pressure reading. Thanks guys.

this is by far my favorite vette that ive found and im in love with every other part of the car, color, condition, wheels, targa top, mileage, and especially price. SO im hoping tomorrow when i contact the dealer A, its still available, and B, i can get an explanation. but i figured id throw this on the table here first…and ultimately none of this matters until my camaro sells anyways

Yeh oil pressure is deff wrong, usually at like 40 durring driving and obv lower then that at idle

Can’t you just slap an LS6 TB on any LSx?

Almost positive the LS6 is a 6.0L and the engine covers would say so…those engine covers say 5.7L, and it looks like your standard LS1 Corvette engine bay. Can’t imagine someone swapped the motor.

correct thats why im like wtf??

and yes i would think so, i just wasnt sure if intake manifold or pulley configuration or somethign else could be a tell tale sign

I thought somone on here once said when the sending unit for the oil gauge goes bad it pins it at 80.

thanks, thats a definite possibility and the nice thing is i could probably get the dealership to fix it if i get the chance to buy it from them, if theyre reasonable. I mean hell if im going to spend 17000 in february on a vette they better give me a full tank an oil change fix any issues and give me a blow job lol…

i also want to ad this, these dont look like stock tips, anyone think this is an aftermarket exhaust? iirc the stock tips are ovular.

LS6 is a 5.7L just like the LS1, the main differences are revisions to the block (still 3.90 bore though), a cam change, the intake manifold and the 243 heads a few other things that I can’t remember too.

I’m 90% sure the throttle bodies are the same between the LS1 and 6 and I’m 99.99999% sure there was no “LS6” marking on the t/b of the Z06’s. Going on that, it looks like the p/o was a ricer and just threw that sticker on :lol

Talk to turbotravis or jammer or someone else who knows their shit in the LSx world

yeh not stock

yeah im pretty sure the LS6’s of the c5’s came in the z06’s and they were still the 5.7liter and i dont recall seeing any markings on their throttle bodies either, but i didnt know so i wanted to ask. like i said i wasnt sure if the accessory drive system would be arranged differently or anything along those lines that would make it identifyable from that picture.

thanks D. that could be a good sign. i already have some sweeeeet plans for the exhaust on the car if i get one. Kooks or American Racing long tubes, kooks catless x-pipe. and B+B or Borla or Corsa Exhaust. but if the car already has a catback thats a plus, and the tips on the car do look like the B+B bullet system,

Here a b&b on a c5, looks a lot alike…

NOOOO FUCKING WAY, is that an arizona plate? the carfax puts this car in arizona for half of its life!!! where did you find that pic lol???

click the b&b exhaust

if this is the car there is a good vid of him beating on it too lol

did you watch the video on that site chris? If by some absolutely insane chance this is the same car, i just creamed because that is the sexiest sound i have ever heard.

Def not the same car, the tips on the B&B arent rolled like the other one. It looks good Pauly, but imo Id save up a tiny bit more and find something with less mileage. The 80psi scares me… lol

Paulie, don’t rush to buy something your not 100% satisfied in, also my personal oppinion… since it is modded, i’d steer clear.

when i bought my car i found in october 08, seller took it off the market for the winter and i scooped it up mid july. 100% stock and couldn’t be happier. hope that helps.

also, why no z06? with around that same milage they are pulling in low 20’s iirc. not sure what your budget is but i’d look into those!

yeh it says corvette just not colored in black

like underboosted said it may just be a busted sending unit and 64kmi on a 2000 imo is pretty good. THe rest of the pics show that this things mint A. I cant tell but maybe the B+B pick cuts off just under the corvette on the back bumper and i cant tell that the tips are rolled, how can you see that, did you blow the image up?
