Innovative Tuning customers Jason and Mike competed in drag racing and time attack at the Grand Bend Motorplex CSCS round #2 yesterday and I made the trip to help them out and take pictures and video.
9.7 at 146 mile per hour 1/4 mile drag pass in Jason’s Subaru:
Jason was in the final for Super Street Power Adder class drag racing at round 1 at Toronto Motorsports Park when it started to rain so that final was run at the beginning of the round 2 race yesterday. Jason took the win.
He went rounds for event two, made it to the final and had trouble in the final with a slow reaction and a missed shift, but the win earlier in the day softened the blow.
During the event which is now a 10.0 second bracket class we have to run about 18 psi of boost to keep from going too fast and being disqualified, but we plugged the boost controller back in after the event and ran a test pass with a new best mile per hour. Video above. This was at 26-27 psi and the car is tuned up to 30 psi so there’s more in it.
Mike Harvey was competing in Super Street AWD Time Attack on the road course with his 05 STI. After winning the first round of the year by a healthy margin it was looking like this may have been an easy win, but there were more entries and a bunch of fast cars out there. Mike did a great job finding pace throughout the day and in his timed session nobody could match him. Congrats on another win!
Grand Bend opened their road course last fall so there were no competitors that knew the track. Boy was it tricky. It has fast and slow corners tied together, and differently aged blacktop. Some turns had tons of grip, others very little. I started Saturday running a 1:01 and ended up with a 57.6 best timed lap on Sunday. They allow passengers, so Mike was able to go out with me and find a better line going onto the long straight. That line was worth more than a 1/2 second.
It was a blast. The car held up well and handles great. One passenger told me that it feels allot like an evo. I’m not sure if that’s a compliment…
Big thanks to Mike and the guys helping me get the car ready for last weekend. With the new alignment tweeks and Whiteline kit the car feels great.
Great driving. You pretty much had the track figured out before I got in with you, but a second set of eyes always helps. I’m glad I finally got to ride along with you. The car is well composed and I look forward to seeing your progress over the rest of the year.
The course was challenging to say the least. The layout had some quick corners where you had to really commit. Add some bumps and debris fields and you definitely had to be on your game to run a solid time.
Ah. Back a few years ago the owner of Dunnville was trying to convert this property into a track. I still have the plans somewhere. Glad someone was able to do it
