This has been in various stages of development since the 60’s
Discovery and study of the Electromagnetic Pulse generated during Nuke testing… led to Non-nuclear electromagnetic pulse (NNEMP) weapon development which led to Microwave weapons such as this.
Believe they have one capable of incinerating objects at distance. Portability and power source are the issues.
