I like that front bumper…
Can’t…rear glass is glued in and I can’t reinstall it until paintwork is finished. Otherwise I would have come today with a shit paintjob
Camo!
Here’s red for ya

Here’s an ST…we could do it like this, but with all different mustaches!!! Bahahaha
The last one looks like a se or sel st has a different front bumper, either way that is interesting.
That literally looks like black sperm and dog poo.
While I’m extremely pissed off about the current situation, I still DO NOT want to cut any corners to finish the project. I am not going to put some temporary paint job or substitution for a paintjob on. I just want a decent paintjob on it so I can pout it back together and drive it a little bit before the snow flies.
The real crappy part of all this is that I stayed up until 4:30 in the morning on tuesday to paint the car and basically wasted my time. Had I waited until I had the proper setup for my gun, I would not be in this situation (uber-regret here).
I think I now need to sand the entire shell down to primer again, re-seal, and start from scratch on the paint. Good thing I still have almost a gallon of sprayable material left. I’ll be getting a second opinion on how to attack this later this week from dirtye30 as he volunteered to come access the situation.
Just TAKE YOUR TIME.
Your deadlines are often ridiculous lol, just get it done right, don’t rush and it’ll be sweet.
I’d be more than willing to help since i have no projects going on right now, just let me know.
You’ll get there man
Is this AWD yet??
Exactly. The RS pieces look awesome. This car is going to be sweet, you’re right not to cut corners just to finish it. You will regret that later.
Not a whole bunch to report, but after getting some advice on the situation it was determined the best course of action is to sand the entire car back down to at LEAST the primer I applied. So I’ve got about 7hrs of hand-sanding in already and it’s very tedious and labor-intensive…and I’ve only barely finished the driverside so I’m not even half done yet. I’m REALLY losing steam on the project and having a hard time motivating to get out there and just keep sanding and sanding for days.
In other news, I went to the junkyard and snagged some parts that I misplaced and a couple parts I grabbed online came in
the blue door trims are from the rear doors of a sedan focus, I got them with the intent to modify to use for the rear quarter strips for the RS (people are paying over $100 for the two strips because they are different from regular hatchback trims…which blows my mind)
I have to make all new mounts for the hatch-door trim strip and shave the ford emblem off it and then paint it
Also grabbed a set of Carbon Fiber B-pillar trims:
I had previously ordered “RS” emblems on ebay, thinking based on the pictures they’d fit the pillars…OOPS, lol
basically, there won’t be much to post about until I have the whole car sanded down and decide whether or not I want to respray myself or ask someone else to do it.
Call someone like Al-Wil and give a quick explanation of what you’ve got going on. They might have a fast drying tie coat that you can seal over what you’ve got, I know I’ve got a product like that for paint and stain problems. Worth a shot and it’ll save you serious sanding. Then you’ll just need to straighten out your problem areas.
just read your entire thread- looks amazing man. total bummer on the paint, but it seems like you have the mind set to get it done 100%. keep it up! ill be checking back to see how this turns out.
so since all the sanding was pissing me off, I decided to work on something else cause I had some free time today…
here’s the only patch left to be “half done” (I.E. the driver side all sanded)
just that area from the door to the arch below the rub strip line.
speaking of rub strips, that’s what I worked on.
as you can see, the RS even has a unique curvature not equal to standard rub strips:
so I made a paper template and cut the rub strip to the right shape:
just like I expected, there’s a dead-zone inside that I’ll have to fill with two-part epoxy on either end now that I cut this thing
after some further trimming and sanding it into shape:
I can’t seem to find my epoxy so I’ll have to grab some more before I can finish the strips.
Lookin good homie! Lemme know if you need a hand soon. I have a couple free days comin up, waitin on parts for the tdi to come in
Not sure what Epoxy you are using but for future reference you should pick up some DURA-Glass. Essentially it is body filler with kitty hair (fibres) in it. It works great for those types of modifications. Once you get your rough shape hit it with a skim coat of body filler and you are ready to go.
Keep up the good work!
been using that all along on the fenders and quarters, but for urethane/plastic parts it doesn’t bond so I use a plastic-based or urethane-based two part epoxy
Here I am thinking “Oh, I’m going to teach him something…” and WHAM! I learned something instead. I see what you did there…
