He’s probably talking about the random spots and bumps and junk here and in other pics, could just be weird lighting effects though.
I guess I could see that now, Ill have to shoot a video of it all next time to give some better repesentation, but you can tell its in the pictures, just look at some of the areas in one picture that look it and look at those same areas in another, Ill fine tooth comb it next time around
and thats why the make DA’s, 1500,2000,2500 & 3K pads, rubbing compound and buffers.
Even in uber clean booths, you still get shit in paint… its part of the game.
Its very hard to show paint work with a point and shoot… for better or worse. In those pics like the rad support, behind the latch, pass side inside fender on the engine compartment, etc. there are minor spots, that will take 2 minutes to come out with a cut and buff. unless there isnt alot of clear to cut off, they will come out just fine.
I would love to see the car when its done in person. Thats a hard color to grasp in pictures.
You will certainly be seeing, and yea this car still needs a full cut and buff and as soon as I get it back I plan on having Jim or Dan get some pro shots
Got my shots from my powdercoater today, parts should be back to me in a couple days… Overall very happy and cant wait to see it in person, although the satin black on the PFab logo looks to be chipped, if so that will be redone not sure I am digging the black logo anyhow…
Hotside all ceramic coated Cobra Jet Black
not bad, whose the coater?
Yeah, powder sucks to mask and 2 color like that. Best bet is to get a sticker and have that sticker cleared over. Like bicycle frames allways do. Most stickers take the 340deg just fine.
Liquid Powder Coats in PA is my coater
im well aware of a DA sander and buffer…i do it all day everyday…most people have no idea what there looking at in a paint job…just wanna make sure the guy that pays a few grand for a full spray gets perfection…OP when the car is completely finished i would love to look at it and point out any imperfections if you would like them taken care of by the painter.
then i am preaching to the preacher. :number1
But a few K$ isnt going to get you perfection for a full respray. A full respray on that car, LESS body work, sure. But I would never put my name&paint over someone else’s body work without me going over it all again myself with my blocks. So body labor is 55/hr for a reason, few grand isnt going to get perfection in my book. Autobody perfection is in my opinion, $20-30K paint jobs on national show cars. but I get what you are saying.
yea its like an ocd thing when i look at paint…everything just stands out…ive seen everything…most shops dont even sand or buff fresh paint…theres always dirt nibs.i always ask who paints the car so i can get an idea of there work…at a car show of about 500+ at guptills you see maybe 3 cars that are flawless.
Small update…
Mocked the subframe up on the motor…
Also stopped by the body shop, hes got the flares looking amazing, trimmed down the edges, rolled the stock body out to the flares so you cant see it from underneath, trimmed down the bumper extensions to match the stock body lines, used SMC to affix the bumper extensions so they actually match the flares (unlike most installs tht just rivet them on tight to the bumper)… These things are gonna look as close to OEM as possible without molding them
The car will be fully primed, bolted, and lined up Wednesday, looking to paint next weekend and should be done and in my possession again around mid July!
picked up my iPad and spare dash this morning… got to chopping and making some cardboard templates for a frame, I can already tell I like the way this is going to come out!
Wait… why would they paint half a jamb the finish color? Is the idea to blend it and re-scuff and clear the entire thing???
Also, thats a candy mid over a base isnt it? IE, impossible to blend. the overlap will be darker than the existing and the new where the thicker candy will be.
ANNND. Getting a match on the final color is very hard with candies, let alone doing them at two different times. Even writing down and carefully measuring contents and coat numbers isnt the end all to getting a matching candy start to finish. Its not just i did 3 coats last week of the mid so Ill do 3 this week… unless hes a hella consistant painter. just a few psi more or less air pressure, or mixing adjustments made on the gun will greatly change the material applied.
Just wondering. the fitment and detail looks good on the fenders and such, so I assume they have a plan for the rest of the paint. that all, friendly discussion. :hug
Tbh I can’t speak for my
Painter, he told me why he was doing it and it makes a lot of sense, I trust him with this car 100 percent
all bullshit aside the cars pretty nice, and you were right about modding the fuck out of it. thing is in a million pieces lmfao.
Lmao thanks I’m glad you think it’s “pretty nice”
This things begging for a hardtop.
I feel like Corey is gonna pull a Justin gsr
just wondering thats all.
I agree!! And some CCWs haha, like I’ve said… Car is far from finished c
elaborate please…
No worries man, I would try to explain it but I honestly just don’t want to mis speak for someone else’s idea… Bt I know it has to do with having the candy carry into the door jam, that door has to be open and closed while spraying to make thst happen, so part of it needed to be painted a head of time, there is a seam in the body there and that should help to get rid of the paint line
