Motor vehicles sold through private parties are always sold as-is, even if its not on the BOS.
It’s a bit sketchy depending on the state (Where the transaction took place) where you can get in trouble selling a car with a CEL that will cause it not to pass inspection. There’s a lot to it but you are right.

Word. In the end the burden of proof is on the buyer. Add the time it takes you to fight it + lawyer you’ll be way over the cost of the car.
Yea. It’s a shitty position to be in. Which is why a lot of people in life can fuck over anyone because they figure it’s not worth it for someone to fight it.

Even with Private sale the lemon law can still be put into effect if the buyer is not made aware of everything that is wrong at time of purchase, also if the sales reciept that the owner has written to the buyer does not state that the car is sold as is it can hold up in court. I had a friend buy a POS from some guy but because AS IS was not written on the title he was able to get his money back.
The AS IS isnt completely solid though.
Also proof that you ddient know what was wrong with the car and was lied to is hard to prove.

Yes through legal action. He dident have the car for more than a day and had the add printed out that stated the description the good/bad etc…
It was a pain in the balls but he did it.
