Crazy Notre Dame Hoax

this thing is just so nuts

I was LOLing hard

cliff’s?

Most likely #1 draft linebacker was “playing through the pain” of losing his grandmother and girlfriend within 6 hours of eachother, leading ND to an upset against Michigan (I think). GF was in a bad car accident and had luekemia, money was raised, it was all over the news with sumpthay and he’s a hero blah blah blah.

Turns out his gf wasn’t real. LoL

Dont forget that riviting Rome interview…

This is all just whacked. My biggest question is, what did he stand to gain from all of this? Thats why im leaning towards the idea that he got caught up in a hoax like he claims. Probably met a “girl” online, found out they were just messing with him but not after he had told media sources that his GF had Lukemia. In the meantime parents come to his back and join the lie thinking it wont swell up like it does and eventually he has to kill her off and tries to mask it behind his grandmas real death but it blows up in his face… come to think of it man, thats elaborate but again, what did he stand to gain other than sympathy?

That or he is gay and she was just a beard lol

If I don’t think about the fact the parents said they had met her (the only thing really fishy in my mind) I’d believe his story that he was completely duped and believed everything himself. Maybe the parents were help covering up the fact that this dude had an internet girlfriend? I know it’s common now but a big football start might be embarrassed about it.

the guy should never have and never would have been the runner up for the heisman without this girlfriend story line… i believe that is why it was perpetuated, whatever the reasons might be for it starting. or maybe he and the friend of his that apparently created the profiles were on the down-low and he used his “online girlfriend” to cover up the relationship…

Yeah but thats a pretty risky move if you plan on telling the world your story and giving tear jerking interviews left and right, to think nobody is gonna go poking around asking questions… I mean, he sounds like a smart dude, you think hed be smarter than that.

After reading the entire deadspin article, I believe that he was in on it.

smart enough not to make a cynical bid for an undeserved heisman with a sad story, but not smart enough to try to figure out if the person he supposedly loves with all his heart actually, really died…never look up a newspaper article about the crash…nothing like that?

as for people not poking around…well it appears it took about 5 months for anyone to bother to look…had we gotten past the draft i bet no one would have even bothered to follow up on this story because it would have been forgotten

So youre saying essentially for notoriety and to boost draft status?

i’m saying given the amount of involvement by family and friends that it would appear to be a big PR stunt gone wrong…

7 interceptions and 1.5 sacks aren’t impressive enough for a defensive player to be in consideration for the heisman…woodson, the only defensive player to win, had 8 interceptions in his winning season and played in all three phases of the game…

this

he got a lot of camera time and press for his emotions and for overcoming heartbreak.

Ever watch the show catfish on mtv. Its all about online relation ships like this. One guy was talking to a girl for over a year and never met her in person. Turns out he was talking to a gay guy.

Ehhh, im not doubting that the stories helped him get there…

I just find it hard to believe that a fairly smart, mormon, high profile, prestigious catholic school attending national icon, would think he could get away with something like that. Furthermore Notre Dame is backing him which is putting a lot on the line for them.

But I guess we’ll find out in time.

Wasn’t it just a matter of time before he was in jail, or was getting 3 or 4 DWIs, or a series of domestic disputes?

I don’t want to sound like I am profiling or being racist, but I probably am going to. Hawaiians are strange. I’ve read a lot of strange stories, and having travelled there and interacted briefly with locals, I think that some of them are very out-of-touch with reality. If you think about it realistically, it’s no surprise. they live on a small set of islands in the middle of the ocean.

i went to penn state…i have no confidence in the meaningfulness of a program standing behind it’s coaches or players.

His story sounds just like an episode of this show, that would be embarrasing for sure, especially for his football player status.

I have a question: It was said that the “fake girl” was someone that he knew? do we know who this is yet? and is there anything that they could even be charged with?

the fake girl was created by a friend of his…who also happens to know the girl whose pictures were stolen to create the fake profiles… that guy is either in on the scam or he is in love with manti
