custom fiberglass work?...i got an idea

I have a Camaro trunk lid (no glass) that you can have (free) to practice on if you want it… It’s from an 86 so no 3rd brake light in the wing…

I’ll have to root around the garage and make sure nobody tossed it yet…

i dont really have the time set away yet… since i’m at school now… and i’m still thinkin about it cuz i like to try things even tho it may take a long time. but if you have a spare deck lid laying around that u dont want, i’lll gladly take it

I have personally worked with fiberglass.

Take my (and anyone else here who has worked with fiberglass before) advice and buy it. Trust me (us.)

I work with fiberglass just short of weekly, enclosures and pods and odds and ends, and at 50 bucks per gallon of resin and 7 bucks per yard of matting and brushes, acetone, rollers if you really are into it, tape, 20 per gallon of “bondo” primer, paint, clear on and on I wouldn’t honestly take the “one off” job of making that wing for less than 700 parts and labor, you’ll have 30 hours into it easily, provided you are familier with body work, and it still won’t be the pre fab part…
if I were in your shoes I’d skip the cosmetic changes, do to performance upgrades or bite the bullet and buy the 300 part… IMO, coming from a custom fiberglass enclosure specialist, but hey do what you need to who knows you might get lucky or have a natueral nack for it :dunno:

If you want to do this, I think you should start with a spoiler from a 2nd gen f-body. The center piece would work pretty well, and you might be able to do something with the corner pieces.

Just my .02

As I see it…

Worst case, you try to make it yourself: You spend the money on supplies, you set a couple of weekends aside. You get to work, and work, and get frustrated. It’s not exactly what you wanted, but it’s cool cuz you did it and it’s different. But at the end of the day you’re just not as happy with it as you thought you would be. edit like F-B-A I’ve spent time on enclosures and such with fiberglass and I’m basinf that on the fact that I’ve thrown out a few pieces cuz they weren’t good enough and I’ve got some experience with it

Or

Best case, you spend all the time you need working with fiberglass experimenting and learning as you go. It comes out kick-ass, and you prove you can do it.

I’d say skip the possible frustration and lost time. Buy the wing pre-made, it’ll be nice from day one. and you can spend the extra time driving it around showing it off. And of course the time you would have spent being “constructive” you could spend drinking mmm beer nuf said.

i love that camaro…that color is sick…wat kind of red is that??
