Dealer tried to rip me off, can I do anything about it?

more then your gonna wanna pay lol

Yeah. The right side rear body mount, where the through bolt on the subframe bushing is goes into is damaged. There is a 1" long section of surface rust about 1/2" wide, with a hairline crack right up the middle.

The est was very informal they gave Dave, it just said it might cost up to 8K to repair. It would be like any colision repair. Dealer would remove all the suspension components under the rear of the car. Put the car on stands and trailer it to a body shop. Body shop would weld it up, paint the repair and send it back to be reinstalled.

The kit from turner, that I saw, for the body itself is NOT listed for his M3. I have never taken the rear suspension out of a M3 or any other 3 body, so I couldnt tell you if the subframe mounting surfaces are interchangable. The sell one for the subframe itself though.

to repair the crack, would take me all of 5 minutes with a wiz wheel to clean up the metal, and weld it back up. Book is 7.6 hrs on R&R of the rear subframe. At most you are talking a $1k job, and be able to live with yourself. $6-8K like they said it nothing short of blatent robbery.

NOW, just welding back up the crack is asking for it to come back in 100, 1000, or 50Kmi later. There is an engineering flaw there, causing this. I could take a sheet of cardboard, make some simple templates and plasma them out of some sheet metal (reproducing the aftermarket reinforcments) and weld them on the body AND subframe for a bit more than the “repair” est. Still, nowhere NEAR the original est.

//Full story over and out. Warning to everyone going to dealers, get the full story from more than 2-3 opinions befor you drop a months paycheck on a repair.

The sub-frame repair job (don’t quote me) for mine I thought was a hair under 4k…

my buddy quoted me like $600 and mike said hed do it for a G, but I just dont want the car anymore… I have a habit of being impulsive and wasnt happy with the yr of the car or the interior color but bought it anyway bc i couldnt find a newer lsb w blk interior… shitll be gone soon.

Cap cities also told a guy I know that his turbos weren’t bad on his 335…

Smoking like crazy and sounding like a weed wacker apparently was normal to them.

Turner def has the reinforcement plates per cut and ready to go, you just weld them in on top off the existing mount. I’ve done a couple of them over the years…hardest part is removing the rear subframe/diff assy

3/4 day job. 4k or 8k, if people pay that, I want a piece of this biz.

hahaha must be nice, right…

lol. Jesssuss

It does take a lot of money invested to have a facility and staff setup to do that kind of repair in that time frame. Big dealers definetly make big money, but they also have a lot of cash invested.
