What makes him so special compared to the average American who have gotten screwed by the collapse of AIG?
Sorry but this is another example of the wealthy not living in the reality that their lifestyle is going to have to change just like everyone else.
You definitely need to look at this from many points of view.
Yes, from his perspective he has gotten screwed. From the average blue collar worker’s perspective, he is being brought to their level. He does seem to think he is above everyone else and should get what he has earned. I am sure there are plenty of people who have lost a lot if not all of what they earned in this whole mess. I know my father and uncle have lost an incredible amount of what they earned over a life time.
Yes the media and now the public is using AIG as a scapegoat, but it’s really not working. It is just making people angrier and when there turns out to be a real scapegoat in the end it is probably going to be broader and scarier.
I think the media has a responsibility to stop the trend towards violence. I am not saying they shouldn’t report the news, but maybe they should even it out with how the average joe buying stuff he couldn’t afford had just as much to do with this as the AIG executive. We need to let this stuff behind us before it turns nasty.
i think the really important take home message (and i am by no means pleased with the bonuses) is that they are pre established contracts that should be honored. When the government is allowed to step in and null contractual obligations, they overstep their bounds. I’m a liberal at heart, but im also realistic. money was provided to AIG and the like to, as the author so aptly put- ‘right the ship’. whether that was done to a sufficient degree is irrelevent if the contracts were not dictated or predicated on the basis of ‘success’. the bonuses should be honored regardless of how the public feels about it, and the govn’t should pay more attention to the policies they enact. the bailout was a lightning quick trigger pull lacking alot of future vision and that was a mistake, but it does NOT make it right to infringe on contractual obligation.

Acorn paid for the buses to cart the ignorant protestors around. So you could say the protest buses were paid for by the stimulus package. This whole thing is a pathetic joke.
Edit: One other thing, I love how Obama said they shouldn’t be taxed 90% because it is unconstitutional. I was LMAO! Great Barry, let’s start eliminating ALL of the unconstitutional laws. Put your money where your mouth is bitch.
Only you can completely miss the point of this thread. :picard:
There might be other avenues of getting the money back, and there might be constitutional issues in taxing these guys out of spite.
LMAO at your nearsightedness.
I’ve agreed with every post by you but the one makes me
Ummmmm so the wealthy should work for $1 a year while the average workers at AIG get their normal compensation? Yea dude this sounds really fair.
The fact of the matter is that whether they deserve their ridiculous salary or not, there are plenty of companies out there that would love to pay them SOME salary for the same work.
Lets assume that you were given an ultimatum:
1 - Work your current job for zero pay
2 - Leave your current job, and get paid
Yeah, no shit, you’re going to take option 2.
NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WORK A JOB FOR NO PAY!!! WHY IS THIS ANY DIFFERENT?
Stop bitching that rich people need to change their lifestyles. This is not about personal finances. These people have enough money to retire NOW and live large the rest of their lives.
In the end, people work their jobs so that they can make money. Take money out of the equation, and there is no reason to work. Self satisfaction alone is not enough to make me devote 40-50 hours/week to ANY company.
Not to mention, this guy puts in his time so that AIG can be profitable and pay back the loan that WE the taxpayers gave them. I consider this a loss to my investment. That guy’s department is one of the profitable ones!!
it’s not me so i dont care.
Don’t give me that $1 bullshit. These guys makes fortunes that once used to be reserved for Kings. They made a system so big and complex that now we’re stuck in a position that we can’t let it fail because it will devistate everyone.
Not only shouldn’t they have gotten their bonuses but since the gov’t took over 80% of the damn company they should have all been fired and replaced. Don’t tell me they are the best and brightest. I bet you could have a line from Wall Street to Time Square of execs that would want their jobs right now.
They will have to sacrifice their lifestyles just like everyone else.
so many who can’t seem to grasp “deferred.”
Alot of gullible people in this thread. The ONLY reason these top execs agreed to work for $1 was because of the big fat bonus check they were gunna be payed. Its the same bullshit that they have been doing for years, moving numbers around to make it appear that there a bunch of fucking nuns or something. You guys are acting like he is some innocent bistandard here when he isnt. Obviously he is gunna quit now because he isnt getting his fucking mega bonus that NOONE should get no matter how well they perform inside a bankrupt company.
This is like the best handicap person in the special olympics, so what if he is the best in his company when the whole company in itself has failed horribly.
If your trying to make a point by saying that the government shouldnt be able to break contracts then please give us some sorta incident where we can actually sympathize for someone. Not some hot shot exec thats been getting overpaid for years and all of a sudden got caught trying to pretend like he is a jesus himself working just like the everyday bluecollar worker for $1. They just didnt expect people to look past there salaries and find all the “extras”.
It is funny when I read these threads you can tell the people who plan to be these execs someday and the people who will sit in their homes with any excuse to cut them down to “their” level. Punishment for their own ambition and hard work to get where they are. Are these guys being overcompensated? Sure, they probably are but this does not happen on accident. There is no registration to be grossly overcompensated. Somewhere along the lines these guys busted their asses to get what they have. This sounds like a form of government I shall not mention. Not to hurt peoples feeling I just don’t look at it as “bring them to my level” I would rather make it to theirs. Not every single person making a great salary in America is responsible for our economic woes. Also if you guys are so disgusted why only hate toward the financial execs we should make sure NOBODY IN AMERICA is making over a certain amount!!!
Hugs for everyone!

maybe your not understanding me. I have NO problem with them making there great saleries running companies into the ground. I DO have a problem when its coming outta my wallet. Does that clear things up a little.
I also have a problem with the lack of taxes the wealthy have to pay too but thats for another thread.
Makes sense for sure. I dont like paying their salary either I am just urked by the idea of being promised one things and then when things don’t work out being given another. But unfortunaltely the world is not a perfect place.
Edit- I really was not trying to call anyone specifically out either just a general observation.
So many people who also don’t understand the idea of different departments within a company.
Seriously, this thread is why you should have to pass a test to be allowed to vote.
edit: lack of taxes that the wealthy have to pay? LOL
I didn’t miss the point, it had already been beaten like a dead horse.
I like to point out things that people like you completely miss because you are more than near sighted, you are completely blind. You are like a blind child in an isolated existance. you want to argue stupid little points while not seeing the big picture at all. Go back to your classroom and teach the kids what the government wants them to know. Be a good little government stooge.
Then why not call for your elected officials to be paid $1 a year?
That’s coming out of your wallet as well.
I know you are but what am I. You are nothing more than a neo-con facist, pissed off at the world that your party had everything and lost everything. You never truly admit that when conservatives were in power they failed miserably.
The hypocrasy coming from conservatives these days is pathetic:
Now you guys are worried about deficit spending?
Now you guys are worried about one party dominating gov’t?
Now you say its patriotic to question the Presidents policies?
For 8 years, conservatives spent like fat cats, dominated nearly every branch of the gov’t and called anyone who question Bush on the war as being un-American.
All your side was able to do was:
There is your fucking legacy and in a couple of years, thats what I will be teaching in gov’t class about the first decade of the 21st century.
