I’ve built old school car like these before… and a ratrod came from Big Daddy Ed Roth’s Rat-Fink cartoons back in the hay-day of street rodding.
They’re great fun; and that is no rat ride either… kinda shaped like it; but most rat rides are cars put together from whatever people having laying around; old frames, bodies, engines, etc; then put together enough to make the safe, but just bare-bones. Similar to the old-style choppers for motorcycles, where everything is stripped down to the bare necessities to drive down the road.

im pretty sure its staying raw, as he posted a picture showing the rust that shakes free from the door every time he starts it, and it didnt seam to bother him at all
but the term “ratrod” is pretty contested, and alot of people now gt offended over the term, because people get the idea that rat rods are done intentional unsafe
calling something a ratrod can be jut as bad as calling it a total piece of shit to the owners face
