Rat Rods/Hot Rods

Anyone around here or know someone into hot rods or rat rods? Just curious if there is much activity with it. I know the Adirondack Nationals in the fall has a few.

Please share stories/pics, I love rat rods.

ibepicthreadfail.

Ive seen alot more rat rods at the Syracuse Nationals than the Adirondack Nationals.
I really like the rat rods and traditional hot rods and customs but theres really not alot in the capital district area. Theres some street rods but mainly the high tech style ones with crate motors and shit, not ones done the old school way.

Guy owns 2 of them and lives on central before TAFT. on the same side.

He brings one of them to the lot alllllllllllll the time.

rat rods FTMFW!!! i dont know many people around here that like them as much as normal hot rods, but my self i love them… ill try to find and post as many pix of rat rods around here as i possibly can :thumbup

“dirty petcock” on here has an old truck, not ratty, but its a flathead powered slammed old flat black truck. jeremy is a pretty cool guy. has had/built some pretty dope machines

flathead ford??

I forgot about that one. I think he came to McDonald’s once or twice with it.

There’s also Ben (not on this site) with the '50’s Dodge on an S10 frame.

That “kustom tatoo” place on central had a rat rod out front the other day.

I want to get one going in the next year or two. Once the garage goes up in the spring, thats the first project in there. A guy on Rt 67 just outside of amsterdam built a bunch in the last few years. He has a nice flat yellow chopped and channeled one on static suspension. He is out in that all the time. I dont see too many around here, which is a good thing… becasue when you do they really turn heads.

My brothers 98 ranger will be a rat rod style build this summer. Body dropped, bagged, shaven big steelies and chrome hubcaps, satin black, pinstriped, back half will have some cool frame work, then some other small stuff… not a true rat rod, but that style.

You can buy a repop body and make a simple frame, hang some bags and get some drivetran from a junk yard and put it together for cheap, just need an old dash for a VIN. But I am sure NYS will make that dream alot harder than it should be.

dont you know what a flathead is???

:ninja

you have got to be carefull with the term “rat rod” some guys will take that as a serious insult. Most prefer “erra specific” or “street rod”

whos that kid with the old 50/60’s dodge/chevy thats rusted to hell but has like 20in chromes on it?

^Ben, as stated above. Pretty cool kid too.

ya, i didnt know if it was a different one.

I seen that i was like O HAI!

I got that a few times on other forums too. I can see their point.

True rat rods are one of my favorite genres of cars. Hopefully I can build one some day, I have a lot of ideas.

yeah true rats are cobbed up from shit laying around. look on the video section someone linked to a bunch of videos from a big rat rod meet in LA. there were some bad ass rides.

I like to too, becasue you can build something bad ass for low $$. Just need some skills and a good eye for stuff around you to spark that “I could put that in my car” thinking.

I want to get a tub or cab, hack it up body drop it on a simple 2x4 frame. Weld on some mustang controll arms or something from a IFS car at the junk yard. Pull a carbed motor from something and make my own ss headers that are obnoxous and lay that bitch out. if it doesnt do more than 40mph before it rattles itself apart I am golden, just something to creep by quiet neighborhoods laying frame.
