Fantastic truck. Those 617 diesel engines are all but bulletproof. Make sure to do both fuel filters every 12-15k, and there’s also a screen in the tank itself that needs to be dealt with every other filter change. Valve adjustments are a pain in the ass without the correct s-bend wrenches.
I bet a lot of money that truck made its way into the US via New Mexico.

Super clean being well maintained. If I wanted to drive a rust bucket piece of shit I’d buy another samurai or a wrangler for a fraction of the price.
I like the defenders but the diesel motor in the defender was just not as powerful as the OM617 in this truck. When you meet a hill in a truck like this you want all the torque you can get.

Yeah, I like the truck a lot and I have been doing some reading on it. Parts for the motor and trans are NOT expensive at all. They are all shared in common with the 300SD sedans you see rolling around.
It was legally imported from Austria brand spanking new by Europa International. Cost $80,000 brand new in 1984. I know the history of this truck and I have all the DOT and import papers. It’s federalized.

It’s gone. I made money on the car surprisingly (Again, I bought the car for fun not to make money on).
I had no issues and I put over 8,000 miles on the car with no maintenance. Plenty of heaters. I think it’s funny when some people own cars for years and don’t even put a fraction of the mileage I can put on in a few months time.
Reason for sale… Because I could haha.
