So I have been around the world a little, through out Canada, Central USA, Caribbean, and Europe.
I just went to Detroit though for the first time to catch the Jays game yesterday and today. Last night though we got lost and went through some of the serious bad places. I didn’t have time to take any pictures. I couldn’t believe the situation down here. shit everywhere, houses abandoned, cars left deserted, it was messed up.
Here I am thinking parts of Toronto are shit holes… Even in Ireland and other parts of Europe weren’t like this.
We drove around the next day though, not nearly as bad parts though, but we passed by complete empty high rise apartment buildings, high schools, houses etc.
I have some pics in the day time ill upload later.
It wasn’t all bad though, the slightly newer tiger’s stadium was nice and parts around it were clean.
Have any of you had any experience with Detroit or any other cities, do share…
Edit: Glad i didnt bring the 240 down here, the roads are really shitty, i would have broken my back a dozen times.
Hahaha, I lived in windsor for a summer and frequented Detriot. Downtown is as bad a shit hole as any city Ive been to. However, go outside the core and Detriot and area is actually not bad.
I once drove accross a bridge there that had looked like it was a mine field. There were pot holes everywhere. Literally, it was little pothole beside little pothole spanning this whole bridge. I had a lowered Talon at that time and the car rattled itself to death driving accross that bridge.
I also cracked my windshield 3 consecutive times driving on the highways there. They are fixing them now but I have to say they are some of the worst highways I have ever driven on.
Best was when I was there during the Superbowl but for Detroit Auto Show. They “reskinned” all of the abandoned shithole office buildings with fake windows and concrete. The inside was still full of crackheads. The made makeshift bars near the stadium in abandoned buildings and evicted crackwhores.
However, venture outside Detroit like I did recently and its very affluent. Auburn Hills, Farmington Heights, Gross Pointe, Royal Oak all have houses that you can only dream about.
on a major street downtown there were 6 sky scrapers on one block… 4 were abondoned already.
i was there on a tuesday afternoon at 1pm… the only people on the street were black people begging or drinking.
The only business open was a liquor store.
there was nothing else.
when i got on a bus to take me to the bus station in Dearborn i was the only caucasian guy. There was a bank that looked like a bomb had gone off, there were bullet holes in the walls that i could see through the blown out windows flapping in the wind. the side of the bank was caved in, partially demolished then left.
this was across a 6 lane boulevard from the police station.
