DIY: Ellicottville themed table build (Pic Update)

I was approached by someone who wanted to incorporate a gift they had received for christmas…into a table for their chalet in Ellicottville.

The piece i was given was this:

They told me that the table will be against the backside of a couch and want it to be 60" long and about 32" high. He also gave me a sample of wood to use to match the material and finish to his existing woodwork.

The last requirement was to have a shelf on the bottom to put his crates with file folders on the bottom.

I sketched up a basic design to fabricate a frame out of square steel tubing with a couple of shelves and way to incorporate the gift piece.

So… for fun i went to work and came up with this. Personally, not my style but it suites the style of the chalet perfectly.

Added the legs and some accent tubing:

I cut some book-end pieces to put on either side of the “gift” to extend the piece and make it longer: (the gift piece absent)

some un-documented steps here.
Everything welded up and fresh from the Powdercoater. Coated “silver-vein”

Had some Oak panels made up and cut to size for the top and 2 shelves:

close-ups of the end pieces that made up. These were drawn in cad and cut by waterjet:

The bottom shelf slides out:

an added touch that was a surprise to the owner. I engraved the top panel with “OFOB” which stands for “Old Farts On Boards” which is sort of a club he’s in with his friends…an avid 67y.o. snowboarder.

Done…but not in place at the chalet. I’ll take better pictures when get a chance.

Took about 9hrs of work including the metal fabricating and wood work. An enjoyable project to show that being married w/ a kid hasn’t put me out of the DIY game.

I like it

Well done, and creative.

that’s awesome. Great work dude.

Sick work man, very high quality.

That is awesome. Nice work Josh

thats hot dude…

I couldn’t believe how smooth the metalwork went. The table was perfectly square and I took some steps to prevent warpage from the welding which saved me TONS of time that would have otherwise been spent straightening and squaring.

awesome work mang… i think im gonna PM u about furnishing my whole house, haha

great job! Ever think about entering the sex toy industry? you could make some pretty gnarly shit

thanks all.

I do freelance testing.

lol i can sell you some to test

Was it his idea for the book ends? And what does he think of the finished product?

 very nice work

no, it was my idea for the pieces on either side of the gift piece. It needed to be something that carried the same flow and carry out the theme. That was all done mainly because it needed to be longer to complete the face of the table.

the owner absolutely LOVES it. He said the quality and creativity far exceeded his expectations…well yeah.

Very clean work

Would it be rude to ask how much he paid? Because that is absolutely incredible… and curiosity peaks when I’m at Best Buy or Rosa’s looking at mass produced garbage which seems to cost way too much…

So awesome.

A: more than the over-priced mass produced garbage.

Materials:
Steel - $95
Wood - $165
Wood finishing materials - $25
Powdercoat - $100
Water Jet cutting - $120

So materials alone: ~$500

I’d be worried about Holiday or Valley being bent… looks really nice, though…

Very nice…
