Do all compressor housing on turbos have O-ring in them?

Im wondering if all turbo housings have a o-ring in them or do some seal on the backing plate without a o-ring. Its a T40E cover

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure since I took the cover off and didnt see one. I was like WTF isnt there supposed to be a seal haha

Not true. There is a big varience in what turbo’s have them though. Most oem turbo and mitsu turbos do as it eliminates boost leaks and chances for them. Some garrett turbo’s do some don’t. 30r does 35r doesn’t. Always boost leak from the compressor inlet and check for leaks at the backside of the cover and at attaching bolts. To seal you can use the high temp copper rtv just a real thin coating and make sure the housing is all marked so you don’t have move the cover to change orientation.

T3’s have a thin fiber gasket. no o-ring though.
