Dubai has a message for those who don't believe that bigger is better.

you must have some seriously deep pockets.

I would’ve thought he would rather visit the pyramids :rimshot:

word I thought it was a millionaires playground

in lieu of my probably racist comment…

Meh, there are nicer buildings, architecurally, but that is pretty bad ass. I want to visit Dubai someday.

It’s kind of funny that once Dubai’s time to shine passes, everything that they built off shore like the palm islands, the “world” islands, etc is just going to get washed away without constant constly maintenance. In the future, no one will ever even know they existed.

I have a business partner that has a place there. I’ll be staying with him, that’ll cut alot of cost. (That is of course if my leave from work approves it) If I had deep pockets, my 84 Trans Am wouldn’t be out of commission since july 2008 due to a broken tranny

No need, “I’ve already been to the top”

I thought their economy was imploding…

interstingly enough, a lot of Dubai property is owned by americans. A lot of americans go there.

Doesn’t surprise me. After all the inflation and wealth that has been built up in the US they have to transfer it somewhere to somewhat insulate from risk, or diversify if you will.

What good was using fiat currency if they let everything they built up disintegrate and fall with the USD? Now of course the common worker knows nothing of this process and they are going to be the ones hit in the face with the shitbrick but…

Meh, there are nicer buildings, architecturally, but that is pretty bad ass. I want to visit Dubai someday.

good article on dubai

Damn good read there.About an hr long but worth it.

If a recession turns into depression, Dr Raouf believes Dubai could run out of water. “At the moment, we have financial reserves that cover bringing so much water to the middle of the desert. But if we had lower revenues – if, say, the world shifts to a source of energy other than oil…” he shakes his head. “We will have a very big problem. Water is the main source of life. It would be a catastrophe. Dubai only has enough water to last us a week. There’s almost no storage. We don’t know what will happen if our supplies falter. It would be hard to survive.”

eek. Almost a guaranteed apocalypse of dubai.

You almost don’t want to believe it. A place doing impossible things, also such a horrible place? Good read.

Someone find proof of the water pollution and I’ll start to believe the rest. Is there a forum somewhere of visitors who have been there? I’d like to see more than just one person’s views and opinions.

Bump for tomorrow:

.

There was a cool fireworks display

A youtube comment
“I heard there is going to be a gay bar open up in there. Not that i’d use it lol”
