Thinking cars were cool and wasting money on them. Fuck cars
Every GM product I have ever owned, save for one. The '96 Grand Prix I had was the worst of the lot. It took two transmission rebuilds and three intake gasket jobs before I decided to ditch that one…and I had previously owned a Lumina Z34.
The current DD isn’t shaping up to be much better than those early leaning experiences, but at least this one hasn’t left me stranded on the side of the road, or needed any major repairs.
Oh, and x2 on the whole fuck cars thing.
Surprised there wasn’t a bunch of “tried to make my Honda fast” posts
For the guys saying “fuck cars” it make me curious as to what other hobbies you regret
probably none, because you spent all the money on cars lol
lol
So why do you keep posting on a automotive forum?
So sell it?
Make more money?
It seems most of the regrets people have around car stuff is the money factor…If you actually enjoy the hobby racing/cruising/whatever you would probably get over that pretty fast.
Porsche 944 Turbo, worst car-related mistake I ever made. That thing was a money pit and was never really fast in the process. I fixed it after ever single track day I took it on. Rebuilt the motor, 2 rebuilt STOCK turbos, 3 STOCK exhaust systems, 4 wheel bearings, 3 batteries, and a used MAF conversion caused me so much headache in the 3 years I owned that car.
Drinking…it made me fat.
Really though, I say it more out of frustration at this point. It just sucks not having the time to go to meets, or hang out at the track, or have the money to do what I want currently. It sucks having to be an adult and take care of certain responsibilities first.
That’s about as smart as buying a used set of headbolts
Auto to manual swapped my first car, a $500 240sx
Either didn’t torque enough or should not have reused flywheel bolts. they backed out and the heads were ground down by the clutch disk. I had no idea what was wrong. Car had to be started in first gear and “clutch” was always engaged.
Eesh…
I was only 1/2 serious… I look forward to having it done.
not having my turbo SHO properly tuned once there was a working definition file for the D4U1 (automatic computer). It still went 12.7 but had a lot more in it without question. Also I have permanent hearing damage from that car from running open down pipe. I will live with that for ever
Installing a Jensen deck, shitty subwoofers, and some neon under-seat lighting (not even wired in bro… cigarette lighter) on my first car, a 1995 Saturn with plastic doors.
Nevermind… my first car was fucking awesome.
I am still willing to help…especially would like to build a custom IC. Sounds fun.
Flooring my 89 Integra up the GI bridge with almost 200k on it, car shut off 2/3 way up. I had just replaced the distributor the night before. kept taking it off and on for 2 hours at the abandoned tourist place. Turned over the engine many many times, wouldn’t start. Turned out to be i snapped the timing belt. good thing the b18a was a non-interference motor. Hardest leg day ever.
Agreed.
I was happy with my car and am happy with my truck. Both have done/do what I planned and havent blown up or caused me headaches.
used wire nuts to splice wires when installing radio in my first car, it would short out on big bumps and eventually started smoking
racing that same first car against a buddy out in the country and not braking for a big curve until i was ahead, went right into a ditch and missed a telephone pole by inches
installing solid motor and trans mounts on my Spec V and driving it that way for 4 days until it rattled my brains out, then reinstalling old stuff
left the drain plug out of my old Outback after changing headgaskets, 5qts of fresh synthetic went right through the motor and onto the floor
