Dyno Day! (End of Season)

Hell yeah! would have loved to see what it would pull in reserve then I would really have had bragging rights!

Oh btw, thanks for everyone that came out. Think that was the best Dyno Day to date had a great time. Always good to see new faces and people that usually arnt around these parts to show up. Hope to see everyone @ Hybrid for the next one for when the winter breaks. :bigthumb:

looks like its right to me, heres your first run zoomed in.

i got the graphs that say mph on the bottom and converting them to rpm with my gears and tire height, i got 5000 rpms? not sure why that is but no big deal, i had an idea where the power would be since last dyno run

Could you send me my best run with rpm on the bottom axis? if you can i’d appreciate it

I also would like mine with rpms if that is possible

pm me your e-mail address and i’ll send you the files with the rpm on the bottom.

Have a question for anyone who can answer it…I have had my VW dynoed with a K04 turbo at 265hp and 303ft lbs. After I fried the turbo…I put the stock back in. In feb. of this year…I had Hybrid dyno it and I mae 210hp and 274 Ft Lbs…what could be wrong with my GTI where I only made 200 and 252 on saturday? Is it a turbo problem…Im still peaking at 23psi! I want a better and bigger turbo anyway…but could it be something more serious?

hitting 23psi on stock turbo is dumb, probably the turbo going out on ya :HAHA: or maybe the fact that you dynoed on 2 completely different days so a few different variables apply…

true…however…hitting 23psi was the doing of my flash…GIAC x-chip. And I dont have a boost controler to tone it down…either way…200hp is no where near enough HP for me…still quick…but I WANNA GO FAST!

get an Ls1

j/k but the difference in power could be from the air differences even tho last saturday was pretty coool outside. also i’ve heard you can make differences in power just from tire pressure or the way the car is strapped down on the dyno. I think you just need bit bigger turbo and better piping to flow more air for that motor. 250+whp should be easily reached and that will be afun car. ever run it at the track as is?

yeah and my best was a 14.3 at 98mph…that was my very best…average the past 2 years has been a 14.7

thats abit better than i thought that car would do with that power. good job

X2

I’ve seen +/- 15-20 just from the wind changing direction, lol.
And 23psi on a K03…? Man, that thing is probably screaming for mercy. Not only that, but your power band is probably done by like 3200 RPM.
There is more to it than just the psi pressure. There is volume, also, and the little fan in the hair dryer of a K03 can’t push enough volume at that pressure to be effective for very long.

It is due to temperature change, the X+ is a reasonably aggressive file for the stock turbo, you could try a different N75 valve to reduce spike (I presume you are running the one intended for you car/that file), but I would just install a boost controller as you will need it anyway once you upgrade your turbo ( unless you get an APR ‘kit’ but I’d still get at least an MBC and limit boost to desired PSI level) the spike doesn’t really help you anyway

On stock turbo I consistently ran 14.4 to 14.2 @ 96-98mph (2002 Jetta full weight no rear seats, kept the spare on 17 inch tires) with an Upsolute chip/3" dp and N75H valve, when it got colder my car would spike higher. With just a chip (no other mods) I got 180whp and 240wtq

ok now one last question…from my understanding…if i bought a gt28rs…can i just bolt that straight on with nothing else? Will my X-chip work with that turbo?

With some lemmiwinks tweaks, it’ll run ok, but I suggest you get the proper SW (which there are a few options) to run a larger turbo…If you get a gt2860rs turbo, you’d need a new DP with a new exhaust manifold, new oil/coolant lines, new inlet, new pretty much everything HW wise.

ATP does sell an eliminator kit which you can use your stock exhaust manifold, but I personally don’t like the set up very much, what are your power goals?

I just want 300hp to 350hp…I want to do it as simple as possible…dont want to spend an enormous amount of money…but I don want more power…thats why I heard that the gt2871rs was just a bolt up…Is there a turbo that I can just bolt on and be done with?? IS the gt2860rs just a bolt up application? and will it be compatable with the GIAC software I already have?

yeap… that stang beet my big ole truck by just a few horsey’s i was running a mild street tune, awaiting my race tune… its here and seat of the pants tells me i got quite a few more out of her for sure… went to pgh raceway on saturday, never got to really run it and they cancelled due to rain… we will be running 12’s this spring…

ha it might have beat your truck but i bet it didnt put on as good as a show at the good ole diesel did :bigok:

Ok, so I saw Kilmer tossed up some info, but I’ll toss in my .02.

So, you’re k03s w/X+ is holding probably a max of around 14psi @ redline? As Fah-Quad mentioned, it’s not about boost pressure, but about the actual volume a turbo flows - but that’s not really as important to discuss until you know what you want to do with your car.

Also, I’d very much so like to see a dyno w/a k04 265whp and 303wtq. My k04-020, which is the biggest k04 you can get w/o getting some sort of a hybrid made 240whp and 280wtq. Probably pushing 250whp and about the same wtq now, but still I doubt you had that as it needs a new mani, injectors, etc etc etc. If you’d like I’ll take you for a ride in my car. Heck, if you’d like I’ll sell you my setup :).

Also, for what it’s worth, the 210/274 couldn’t have been correct by any stretch as far as I can guess. Maybe that was uncorrected and it was freezing cold out or something. Or a bad RPM pick up could be where the crazy tq numbers are coming from. I could see that out of a k04-001 on a stretch, but never out of a k03s.

There is 1 turbo that you can 100% bolt on to the manifold you have now and use the oil + coolant lines you have now + turbo inlet pipe you have now. It’s the k04-001. This will hold probably… 16-17psi @ redline. That would be your only direct bolt-on turbo. That turbo would probably yield 20whp gains. After that, everything SHOULD be put on a new manifold and will absolutely need new lines. The ATP eliminator kits that bolt up to the “stock” manifold are OK solutions, but honestly they are not really that great on a stock manifold and don’t really use the best hardware out there. And you’re still going to run probably $2500+ for their kits and you can get better products for the same money.

Also, I’m not sure if you know or not, but the stock rods are good for about 300-320whp depending on your car/tune. The better the tune the harder you can push them, but really your best bet it to replace them right @ 300whp. The pistons are forged though and can handle more, so you can get away with doing ONLY rods. You’d probably be looking at $600-700 in parts alone for those if you did the labor.

As for your GIAC, they offer files for plenty of big turbos. You’ll just have to pay the difference from X+ to whatever you got. Usually $200-300 for the upgraded file.

Honestly, I’m not trying to be a dick, so don’t take it as that, but you can ask more questions if you’d like. But you’re missing a lot of factors from what I read. Kilmer knows a ton about VWs and I know a pretty good bit. I also think Fah-Quad is pretty knowledgeable and in general you can ask most anyone on here about turbos and get some info regarding psi vs. cfm or whatever it is you’d want.

Also, FWIW, with my 6spd (typically slower by up to .3 and traps are slower by up to 3 mph) when I made 200whp and 232wtq @ Hybrid, I pulled a 14.4 @ 98.xx @ PRP w/a 2.27 60’. Now with my k04 setup my car should pull mid 13s @ around 103 probably. TBD currently.
