leave it white. and get gold/bronze wheels. then slam it

[/quote]

dont slam anything…

:spam: it

 from one EA’r to another.

:tspry: to a nice setup

Not bad for a guy that had no mechanical experience. Everybody starts somewhere - that looks better than most  Keep zee pics coming.

cliffs: rawk :headbang:

Thanks. I hate white but I will see how it looks with your bronze wheels andy. I am pretty sure I still will want to paint it black though. I know black is almost impossible to keep clean, but I plan to put a red flake in it which I think will have enough shine and reflectiveness to distract from any small scartching or dirt in the black. I will put up more pictures tomorrow night after I get some more done. Thanks again.

white is easy to keep clean. white is the best color on almost any car. black looks hot when kept clean, but it’s rare that you see a black car not covered in imperfections.

feel free to ignore me. i just don’t think i’ve ever seen a white 240 with bronze wheels that i didn’t like.

Well I got my clips, which made me very happy. Thanks Don. I was able to put in the fourth piston.

Then came time to put on the timing guides. Well I got screwed again and West-Herr Nissan only gave me one of the new bolts that I needed. So in the morning I picked up a bolt from Carquest and got back to work. With the guides in I was ready to do the main timing chain. Everyone seemed to make a big deal about lining up the timing marks, but it was pretty easy. The timing chain has two slightly different colored links where the marks match up. Makes life very easy. I lined everything up, put a small piece of welding wire in the tensioner to hold it back for the time being.

Put the timing cover on, the headgasket, and then set the head down. Put the bolt in to hold the sprocket, and then took out my wire to put tension on the chain.

Then was time to tighten down the head. I love having a downloading FSM, made life easy having the tighten procedure right there along with torque specs. Got the head all tightened down. Now just taking a break for some caffiene before I put the cams in. Putting an engine back together is a much slower process than I had always imagined it was. But it is a lot of fun and is going well.

 good progress

Well I was getting ready to put the cams on, but realized I was missing a chain guide. Looked at my pictures of the dissassembnle and realized I never even had the guide in the first place. Well I guess My engine will have to wait another week for this guide to come in.
The guide I am missing is circled in red.

lookin good dude!

LOL you never had the guide! WOW. I would probably replace that hydraulic tensioner as well then because it was probably working over time to make up for the missing guide.

Looks good Will.

looks real good.

i hope you are better than the guys that said they knew how to build an engine for me.

I love engine builds. I get bitched at for going out into the garage with a cup of coffee and sports radio on in the morning - “I thought you were gonna do something fun today?!”

Hell, this is better’n Scrabble

i believe nissan released a TSB regarding the upper guides.

lots of people remove them due to them rubbing and breaking.

looks good though

Yeah rebuilding the engine is a lot of fun, but it will be a lot more fun rebuilding my dad’s big block next year.
Anyways, I put the cams in and the oil pan on. So now I need to figure out if it is safe to run without the one timing guide or if I need it. Then I can finish up the motor. I taped off the head and timing cover, to paint the block and oil pan black. make them look clean.

Along with the engine build and cleaning up the engine bay, I have been cleaning and redoing the interior. Well mostly up until now I have just been ripping out the interior. I stripped the interior down to nothing, except for the steering column and the wire harness. The car smelled of smoke and pretty musty when I bought it, so I decide to remove everything to eliminate the smell.
http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p276/WAH-KA-T/NYspeed%20DYI%20Thread/DSCN0994.jpg

The only thing that has made progress on the interior is the dash board. I removed all of the heating and air conditioning from the car so I decided to cover up the vents so that the dash would be real smooth and clean. I started out by covering all of the vent openings with task board(nothing special just a easy to cut board). I then used lightweight body filler to fill in the openings and a very thin coat over the whole dash to eliminate the texture and to make it even. I decided to permanently put my gauge pod in the center vent so that there would be no gap around it making it look funny. I used a one part glazing putty to fill in the streaks and dimples. That is where the pictures stop, but I sprayed a light coat of primer, which revealed a lot more dimples, which I have now filled and sanded. Tomorrow I will go at it with paint agian. But this time I have a thicker (fill and sand) primer. So hopefully it will fix any small scratching.
