Cool project! Nice to see people doing different things. Ever think about making it rear wheel drive with an SVO 4 banger swap out of a Mustang or a T-bird Turbo Coupe?
interesting, goodluck with the project
I’ve considered a RWD conversion but never thought of using SVO parts. I thought about the 4cyl mustang…Hmmmmm… the only problem with that is price. I know a guy that goes to the glen every year with his SVO. It runs real strong but he has put a ton of money into the thing. My only other downfall is resources. I’m working on getting an air compressor, have a welder, but that would be a real long project. Not to montion I have a small barn. I’m thinking simple to start… This is litterally a drop in swap with the exception of putting a different wiring harness in and a few other small things.
i think its cool looking outside the box as far as a project car i’m just bias because i parked my escort wagon for a few weeks and when i went to start it again it caught fire and almost burnt down my garage but goodluck with your project
It’s the same motor that was in the Thunderbird Turbo Coupe which was much more popular. They pop up for sale all the time on corral.net. Here is a sample and the guy is in Ontario:
Complete Turbo Swap:
-88 TC motor, ran fine when pulled (complete with PS pump, alt, starter, ext.).
-88 TC T-5 trans, with bell, clutch, and flywheel.
-LA3 ECU.
-Complete 88 TC harness.
-Large VAM.
-Intercooler…either Volvo front mount or stock TC.
-5-speed pedal assembly for hydraulic clutch.
-Clutch MC and associated bits.
$500, or $520 with Volvo IC.
Other Parts:
-Another complete 88 TC motor with a top end noise…$300.
-Complete TC T-5, with bell, clutch, flywheel, shifter. (would pop out of second on occasion…$120.
-Large VAM…$50.
-Stock TC top mount intercooler…$15.
-Big Volvo front mount intercooler…$40.
-2.3L motor mount for Mustang (used)…$20.
Or take it all for $750.
Prices are in US dollars.
Can make any kind of package deal on what ever parts.
Also willing to trade for a nice 302/351 and T-5 trans.
I like this project. Get that car looking as cool as the red one pictured and u win.

how weird, there is another person restoring a ford escort on this forum ILC
you can always go to him for help on your escort or you could help him if neededhttp://nyspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66138&page=7
BEst Car Ever… I can’t wait until I’m done with my restoration
:suicide:
How much $ to you think you will have into it when its all done?
omg. you should just off yourself now:banghead:
cool, different. goodluck
I always loved the cosworth escorts, good luck on the build.
 to actually having a build and doing what you can with what you have.
For the price listed on the SVO parts i think that would be cool and make me like ti much more.
I will reserve final judgment for when it is closer to completion. Have fun and good luck.
With the turbo setup and engine in the car, suspension, rear disc brake conversion, gt bumpers, and new paint job, I’m looking around at most $1500. A running car with none of the aftermarket goodies probably $5-600. All depends on how complete the donor car is.
I would love to see you shoehorn a LS1 into this car with a 9" ford rear end.
It.would.Scream.
I am all for the SVO RWD conversion also.
Strip this thing down, and get some firm coil overs and I’m sure you’ll have an Autocross champion.
The car isn’t bad for a Buffalo car, I used to own a 97 LX myself and it was a rust bucket. So I can understand, and appreciate the clean factor.
huh? i would figure paint and suspension alone would atleast be 1500…
