Twin turbo Trans Am build and LSX swap Mustang hackery

Last winter i did a single 76mm turbo along with a forged motor in my T/A. The setup was fun even with some issues that were my own mistakes along with it not having a decent tune all year. Oh well, still ran right with a 600hp boosted Mustang.
I’ve always wanted a twin turbo V8. Seeing Foureyed’s car at the WNYfbody meet really sent me over the edge. After talking with a guy i was put in touch with for doing the fab work i was sold. My thinking was that i might as well just do it now so i don’t just keep putting my money in the other setup.

here will be the setup for 2013:

Forged 370 CID LS
twin Precision 6262’s
front mount air to air that I will fabricate
Return fuel system -8 feed -6 return and 80 lb injectors.
staying with a 6sp for now, but that may change

Pics are more interesting than reading type so I will let them do most of the talking:

Sent out my turbos and manifolds out to the guy who is putting the kit together. Pipe is all vibrant stainless bends which he is polishing and TIG welding.

Should be getting it to me hopefully by the end of this week or next week and then i can start getting things together on my end. I bought a Griffin radiator and am in the process of tucking it under my core support for extra clearance. I also may be switching cyl heads for some TFS or AFR. I’ll keep this updated.

Who is doing the fab work?

A guy who goes by the handle “Turbo Joe” in Plainfield Il.

Love it man looks like top notch work and super clean. What kind of HP goals are you shooting for?

Dyno queen stats

Awesome, keep up the awesome work Jim, “i own a celica” rofl

exactly! :mpd:

This turbo isn’t enough. I want more.

These turbos aren’t enough. I want more.

This fighter jet is awesome!

Time for some big boy injectors and see if we can give the Mustang eddy current brake a workout

looking nice. Iron or Al block? How do you expect the T56 to hold up? also, what kind of manifolds are those?

Who is tuning it? Are u sure 80s are enough? What pump do u have?

Looks like u feel into some serious money

 that builder does great work

Should be sweet.

Iron block, I rebuilt and upgraded that T56 a few years ago so it is far from stock. Those are 6.0L truck manifolds with the stock flange cut off and V bands welded on

Slurp slurp Johnny Ringo

Looks like you’re going to be done before the end of the year :tspry:

Post up pics of how you mount the new radiator.

80’s probably wont be enough. They will be most likely maxed out at 800rwhp. The next step up is up to some big boys @ $1000 per set. Not really looking forward to that. I have 2 walboro GSS340s feeding a -8 to the rails.

LZ - Yeah its coming along quickly but i may be switching the cyl heads and what not too. Not in a big rush, have a good 4-5 months left to work.

Glad I could motivate you! 62’s should be perfect, I think I went a little too big with mine. You should be running bottom 9’s with this car even with the big heavy wheels. Ever think about E-85? The only thing is it needs so much fuel that if I get into fuel injection, I would be looking at the Moran 235lb injectors $$$

Looks awesome so far! I just hope you learned from this year’s mistakes, and are actually able to get it running decent and drive it around next year. That’s a lot of work and money, you need to enjoy it.

Not to be the “rain cloud guy” but am I to assume this will no longer be a street car? What are your plans for putting that hp to the asphalt? Just askin’.

I thought about E85 but it just seems like a pain for a street car. What are your feelings on meth injection?

It will always be a street car. As of now it still has the 6 speed in it and i plan to keep it that way for a while. I’m probably going to get some better suspension mods. The car has non adjustable BMR stuff that was on the car when i bought it. Certainly needs an upgrade.

Did I run you down Rt. 20 in Hamburg around 11:30 at night a couple summer’s ago?

Lol at “no longer a street car”

A lot of people use meth with good success, but the majority of problems seem to come from people that just toss it on and spray away. As long as you get a good kit, and tune while using the kit, you should be fine. I think meth is more of a pita than E-85 on a street car though, but it depends on your goals and how much you drive it. I wanted my car set on kill all the time, so I chose E-85. I only put about 2100 miles on the car this year though, so finding fuel wasn’t too bad.
