Well… I’m going to try this again. I would like to start out by saying that I hate TurboLS1ss and PsychoPJV. Turbo for getting me amped up over the years and Pat for putting the final nail in the coffin by letting me drive his car.
Here is the basics of what is going down:
KYTP stainless front mount hotside, T4
Precision 76GTS turbo .96 a/r
Iron 6.0 370 CID
317 heads
custom spec jnj scammed boost cam
unsure on fuel system, will probably be something overbuilt and overpriced
Here is some background on the pile…
2007- 2010 it was a cam only setup with spray in '09 (about 2 bottles worth)
in the winter of '10-'11 i took out some weight, spruced up the interior and added a nice set of cyl heads + some other odds and ends.
Shameless car plug:
Contrary to some rumors, my old engine did not shit the bed. It JAMS on in a :snky: red car, stay tuned for next year on that.
Mid August, old reliable smoked one last VW and came out, too good a deal to pass up!
Picked up a Precision PT76GTS after hearing endless good things about this turbo. Very early spool time, good top end power etc. Seems like a good all around turbo.
Also got a great deal on a Kentucky Turbo and Performance stainless hot side complete with waste gate. This will save time and money, plus the TIG welds are oh so pretty! I will be modifying it to accept a TIAL 44mm wg and have it recoated.
turbo kit mocked up with a junk block i had laying around:
Next came the issue of a motor. Apparently GM stopped production of 6.0 Lq9 blocks (which were ~$800 new) and everyone remotely local wanted tons of money for their bare blocks so i bought a complete running motor from HowBill.
then took it apart
Going this route, for the grand sum of $950 incl tax and delivery i got
- a block
- a crank
- 6.0 truck coil packs and brackets
- valve, front, rear covers
- sensors
- solid 317 head cores
Next, took the block to northeast machine where it was cleaned up all pretty. Then went to work with some POR15 black engine enamel
This is about where she sits now after less than a month effing around.
Yesterday i ordered Mahle forged dished pistons and Callies Compstar rods. When the pistons arrive it is going to the machine shop. Then assembly can begin. My hope is to have the long block end of things completed by Christmas break.
also huge thanks to this guy:
He has already helped me a ton!
Goal is to have this making JAMS by the Spring '12 WNYFbody cookout.
stay tuned
