Father accused of trying to trade infant daughter for beer

A 24-year old from Northampton, Massachusetts is facing a charge of reckless endangerment of a child, after allegedly offering to trade his daughter for beer or drugs.

It was around 1 p.m. on Monday when the nightmare started for one Chicopee mom. Thirty-one-year old Wendy Arsenault said she had no idea her boyfriend, 24 year-old Matthew Brace, was trying to trade her three-month-old baby girl to a Pride Gas Station service man for either beer or crack cocaine, while she shopped inside the Pride store on Burnett Road in Chicopee.

Police Chief John Ferrero said it wasn’t just the baby Brace put into that service man’s truck. To seal the deal he also added the baby’s stroller, saying “For two 40’s, you can have her.”

Ann Robinson of Chicopee was appalled to hear the story. “My daughter had put a message online that someone tried to hand over their baby for beer,” Robinson said. “And that’s so sad! I have a two-year-old grandson, and I have two children. I can’t imagine anything being worth surrendering your child.”
