Ford SC

Found a 89 ford Super Coupe to look at tonight… Any thoughts ???
TYIA

pretty cool cars. any more info on it?

86k, carfax comes back good, 5 speed… pics online look good, but thats normal. lol

Watch for head gaskets (notorious on that Ford 3.8). They’re a bitch to do too because you have all the intercooler pipiing and such. Also there are common problems with the wiring, specifically for the radiator fan.

I used to own one. Such a fun car to drive but have a big wallet because the parts are far and few between, they were only made for 7 years and that motor didn’t come in any other car. It’s hard to describe the feeling of dumping the gas pedal and feeling that big of a car move the way it does at 14psi of boost. I wish I could find my car again, it was in immaculate condition.

Last pic I can find of mine.

86k is good for an 89, what kinda price they asking?

Some helpful sites would be:

www.sccoa.com
www.tccoa.com

that gives me a few things to look out for … it’s at a dealer, asking 2500.00 I think.

That’s not too bad for a dealer. I bought mine in August 2001 with 101k for $3500…

I’d say if they would go like $2300 I’d go for it as long as the headgaskets looked good and it didn’t leak (too much) oil.

I went, I looked, I left… I was working and did have time to play around.
Just didn’t look like the car for me.

I would ask for a mechanic to check it out first…i think gearhead is close to you also

headgaskets definitely need checked, otherwise…grab it up

Where is this car at? What color is it?

UGH… I don’t have enough coffee in me to be posting… but, It’s listed on the autotrader. I tried posting the link, but couldn’t do it. A simply search should bring it up.

I met GearHead last week while I was searching the local lots. Since I know little about cars i’ll most likely get something from him plus he’ll be the one doing most of the work to the new toy.

i have a buddy with a built 93 thunderbird sc. its got a jasper built engine and an upgraded blower. he was selling it a couple of years ago but decided to keep it. it was pretty dang fast.

I’ve owned 2. Any questions let me know.

Things to look for:
Bad motor mounts <-guarantee they are gone, check for cracks in the oilpan from it resting on the crossmember.

Harmonic balancer wobbling

And ask their tech to get under the car, check if he can tell if the head gaskets are replaced.
