Rear axle bars snap… -> VIDEO LINK <-
What did they do here? Cut and oval into the axle then re-weld it? Is that just part of the manufacturing process?

ive welded 2 of those so far, thats a really shitty design… the metals soo thin, and up here it just dont last…lol… i dunno when they all started breaking, but i welded them 2 a few years back …lol…
— i been on comp for months now, so i just text the office idiot. he said one of the windstars went to ford and sat for almost 2 months waiting for parts after it broke again near the other side…
That video is just heartbreaking. Right after the guy dies and leaves his wife and kids behind the recall notice comes in the mail.
wow.
^Ditto.
Unfortunate.
thats really unfortunate
its crazy that this isn’t blasted everywhere on the internet/news since its been a known problem, if this were Toyota the media would be trying to them shut down permanently
oh snap, the Nissan Quest/Mercury Villager and the Tuarus cars are all on different platforms.
My parents have a 99 Windstar. I just called them and told them to stop driving it and call a Ford dealer. Scary stuff.
My dad has an 02 villager, that isn’t affected is it?
WOW. That 35mph crash was scary.
I hope fixed this for the freestar/monterey, we own a 2004…
that car in the pics looks like it was 250,000 north Eastern US / Canadian KM / Miles on it… some of these cars are 13 years old…
anyways… that crash test is insanity
you’re nuts. those pictures still have black paint on the axle. thats gone within the first 4 years in this area.
ford really messed up with the windstars… they were terrible. my family had one as a kid and it never went a month without needing something.
Lemon perhaps?
Most of this things should have been considered lemons. My mom had one- a '95. Complete engine and transmission replacement between 40k and 50K. Thank god for a good warranty. Then a transmission rebuild 3 days before the warranty was up. And that was just the big stuff. Just when she figured she was good for a while after replacing a bunch of stuff, something else failed. I saw that thing at a junkyard a year after she sold it with 93K on the odometer, still looking clean as ever. That’s pretty much normal for an old Windstar.
Yikes.
the windstar has one of the most shitty suspension designs by ford. I would say the taurus is number 1
That’s awful.
