FS: 1989 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 16v - $2750

I am selling my Tornado Red 1.8 16v GLI that I have had for 3 years now. The car has 154k miles on it and was brought here from from Columbus OH, so the body is in very nice condition. It was owned my a mature VW nut who’s wife drove the car to work. It was then driven by the elderly mother in law, until she passed away.

There is some rusting on the Pass. side fender, I will include a set of replacement fenders. I also have a rather large collection of spares: Complete Front Subframe (Power Steering Rack, Tie Rods, Hubs, Etc…), a set of Vented Rotors (brand new in the boxes), Distributors, Clutch Cables, Alternators, interior parts…that will all go with it for the asking price. You will be happy, trust me. Other parts I will throw in: a set of Rare Dark Gray Interior C-Pillar Plastic, a matching Sunroof Crank & Surround.

The car was bone stock and the paint was the chalky orange-ish oxidized color when I brought her home. But after literally 12 hours of hand rubbing, the Tornado Red Paint shines once again! I have made all of the usual performance upgrades plus more, this is a well sorted GLI. I Installed a set of Autotech Sport Cams this spring along with a new Timing Belt and Tensioner. The inside of the head was beautiful with absolutely no sludge. The PO and I both have used Mobil 1. At this time, I also removed the A/C compressor and lines (about 22 pounds of stuff!). I did not remove the Condenser, just ran out of time. Over the winter I installed a USRT Smartshift kit. This is THE fix for the typical crappy VW shifter! It replaced all of the factory shift linkages and bushings with Spherical Bearings and Delrin bushings. I also installed a Eurosport Short Shift Kit with 50% reduction at this time. The difference was huge! The shifts are positive and tight. Last years upgrades included the Bilstein Sport Shocks/Struts (the Yellow ones, Neuspeed Sport Springs, an Eibach 25mm Rear Bar and a brand new Techtonics Tuning 2-1/4" Exhaust. The car is solid, tight and handles superbly.

I bought the car because the factory Recaro interior is perfect! The front seats have the power height adjustment too.

Also, there is no radio but I have the 6 stock AKTIV speakers in the car. They sound ok. The Heated Mirrors and Power Locks work perfectly. The MFA Computer does as well. (With the exception of the mpg function)

Need to do: -The Pass. Front Window Motor needs to be replaced
-The bulb behind tachometer is burned out
-Replace the headliner or just paint it black (the headliner was sagging so I removed it)
-Drivers side rear door handle needs to be replaced (I may have a spare)

As you can tell, I love this car. I have alot of blood, sweat and tears invested in it. She was stored in my garage November thru April for the 3 years that I have owned her. Summer months, she is hand washed weekly and is polished with NuFinish once a month (that stuff is great on the Tornado Red Paint!).

I am asking $2750. (I will haggle with the price if I can keep the wheels/tires) PM me for contact info.

Reason for selling:
I’ve been getting the e30 bug again lately. It may be the right time to move on.
