History:
I bought this Jeep from a friend as a Christmas gift for my Grandfather. It was formerly a 6-cyl CJ. After swapping in the V-8, building the exhaust, doing brand new brakes, radiator, and a host of other jobs to get it in good order, it became apparent that it was not the kind of Jeep my 70-year old Grandpa was going to enjoy. I ended up buying him a TJ on Christmas Eve so the CJ needs a home. Spring is here and it’s time to make room. The Jeep runs, drives, and makes good power but the motor sounds noisy to me? I just have way too many cars and I’m not a Jeep guy at all so I’m cutting my losses on this project. Bottom line, because of the clean frame, Painless harness and many other new parts this is a VERY solid project for someone who is interested in owning a CJ. You can drive this home.

Needs:
Paint on the tub (currently in bedliner)
Interior (it’s all functional but not pretty)
I sometimes hear a vacuum hiss from the Quadratrac switch (I’m told this is an easy fix?)
Exhaust needs tailpipe after muffler (I just never put one on)
Carb could use some final tweaking - there is an off-idle stumble until she warms up, I don’t tune carbs

The Jeep is currently located at gearhead’s shop (JTech Sales & Service) in Butler, PA (16001). He has temporary legal ownership of the vehicle and is fully authorized to complete the sale, in person, at a notary located in downtown Butler. If you are going to come see it, please make sure you have the cash to spend and you understand that while this Jeep is a driver, it still needs some finishing work. If you are a Jeep guy and know what you are getting into, I believe the little stuff this needs could be done in a weekend. I am not interested in spending another hour on this because the Jeep was never for me, Grandpa is happy with his TJ, I just bought a house and I have no time/room for a Jeep project.

Answers to some common questions:

Will you take a trade?
Probably not. I already have too many projects. I would consider a trade for a decent, fuel-injected truck or cargo van that is worth something close to my price. I am not interested in quads, bikes, stereos, video games, or guns.

How many miles are on the Jeep/the 304 motor?
I actually don’t know. I haven’t been up to Butler to look at the Jeep in over a month. The V8 was sold to me as a rebuild and it does make power. The exhaust doesn’t smell bad and does not appear to be burning oil, but I haven’t driven the Jeep much. You are welcome to come hear it run, poke at it, take it out for a spaghetti basket dinner and look under the CJ’s skirt to see that all her parts are working.

I don’t think your price is right, your CJ is junk.
Thanks for your input. If you want to go out and find a V8 CJ with a clean frame and more than $1,000 in new parts that you can drive down the road for the price of a crusty project, then I wish you the best and hope that you find your unicorn. I think anyone who does their own work and knows what they are looking at will recognize that my price is fair considering all the new parts and the solid underlying condition of this rig. I already knocked off $100 from my firm Craigslist price for Pittspeed.
