has 190k on it, heard and seen it running, clutch is in really good shape for the milage, judging by that id say the car was mostly driven on the highway…car was female driven
what popped on the passat? If its just a broken belt and crashed valves/pistons this motor will still work, its just not a drop in deal. The block and head are all that matters. Depending on the head on the passat the only real difference is VVT or not, and you can swap that to either eithout issue. You would be swapping everything though; exhaust and intake manifolds, valve covers maybe, accessories, plumbing stuff but the heart of it is the same longi vs transverse.
Got ya, you the vw guy over by tibbits ave on Saratoga st??
Dropped a valve scored the top of the piston. So worst case rebuild head and replace piston but I’d rather drop a running motor in it and be done. Then sell my motor for someone to rebuild. My buddies got a inquire up at Jbap were waiting to here back. Just seen this and thought I’d look into it. Keep the money in the shift family yanno what I mean.
never changed it lol, runs good on pump gas, put a couple cars on it on JC’s blue ls2 vette that made 440rwhp and trapped 120. then it snowed so i put the car away for the year.
To be perfectly honest with you, if the car will never see anything more than the stock turbo and stock tune, a little kiss on the pistons are not going to really cause much of a problem. usually the valve bends in an instant and takes the brunt of energy instead of the piston. Long story short, I have 2 cheap customets not want to do a bottom end or swap, just a rebuilt head and belt kit. on a 160K and 190K motor respectivly, they are both running still today. They are daily drivers and not getting beat on and are stock tuned. Of course offer the “just so you know” disclaimer but its not 100% nessesary in my opinion to replace the pistons or entire motor. Like I said if it were an on the fence or “cost cutting” customer, this is an option.
