My first competition setup was a 15" Orion HCCA with a Orion HCCA amp. That hit 147 and some change then it was in an accident and broke into pieces.

I then built a 15" Cerwin Vega Stroker with an MA Audio amp in a 5 cubic foot port slotted box all MDF and it tickled the 150 mark.

A friend of mine had 2 15" kicker L5 subs (almost positive there were L5, could of been L7 but it was almost 5 years ago). He had them in a slotted box, dumped it and built a sealed box and hit harder. The numbers don’t lie.

with unlimited power it will hit better and cleaner with a sealed box however unless you feel like spending crazy money on an amp ported is the way to go
