Also, water right at freezing contains incomplete ice crystals, so the wave action could be concentrating these ice crystals as well.”
Where is the ice coming from? For Ice to travel that far it would have to be solid. There are no solid pieces. If the ground is frozen then the temperature at the water/ground interface will be lower then the water temperature. That coupled with wind chill, which is a huge factor, can crystallize water quickly. That water is NOT ice. Its crystallized into a slush.
