GM fails to reproduce a good concept car V. Volt.

So, how do electricity prices factor?

I’m sure it takes X kW/hrs to supply a full charge.

I think its not very attractive, but if they make any money on them, maybe they
can afford to retool for a gen 2?

it takes 8kw/h to charge it, so about a buck.

$365/yr to charge it once every day.

$3120/yr to fill my tank once a week. ($60/week)

Still would be nice though. Sure, the initial cost is huge, but the extra weekly cash in the pocket may be nice… as long as the car lasts a while.

so let me get this straight you can go 40miles before using any gas? 99% of my driving is under 40miles… Or am i just retarded and misred?

Agreed. The concept was ugly as hell.

Both of you, read this, DO IT NOAAAUUUGH!

the price comparisons provide have two things that should be noted:

First your assumption is there will be no tax breaks or credits and 40k is what your are going to pay
Second you are assuming no recharge until the gas tank is empty

Lastly, there is a thing called supply and demand. Maybe they are releasing it at 40k for the first year or two when they think they can sell everyone they produce and lower the cost as the economies of scale increase?

it doesnt. it looks like a cobalt ss sedan with a slightly shorter hood. worlds better than that gay prius.

im still ahead of any of these with a 100$ geo metro. well maybe not in a crash with a SUV but i dont care about that lol.

GM fucking sucks. They completely ruined that body design.

Why the hell do these manufacturers keep making AWESOME concepts, and then water down the shit out of them for the public and piss everyone off? Why dont they try doing that BS in reverse one of these days and actually give people MORE than they want?

GOD WILL YOU SHUT UP… you are jealous that it will beat your precious viper on the Ring.

The concept sucks

GM will drop the ball

People wouldn’t fit into a chopped concept car.

People aren’t going to buy a car that no one can fit into, or put their groceries into.

The concept is nice or whatever, but I don’t think fuel prices are HIGH enough to justify people spending 40 grand on an electric car.

Fuel prices are going back down.

I drive a saturn, its only 30 bucks a week.

GM made it, of course it will beat the Viper on the Ring… fucking DUH?

The concept sucks? Hmm… I would rather be caught dead in the Volt concept than in a Prius… but I am making no comments on being caught in either when alive. They are both WAY too tree-hugger-ish for me. Fuck that noise.

You might want to re-read the post I linked because I covered everything, minus the economies of scale stuff because it won’t apply for years. I challenge any of you to find fault with the math and figures I used.

seriously though, whoever is going to pay 40k just for good mileage is silly.

to pay for the latest tech and gadgets though is almost ok lol.

i may have missed it… how fast is this thing going to be?

i also want to see the hit to the power grid if these sell like hotcakes.

Brian

I was referring to Clean Baldy, I didn’t read your link

But since you challenged me:

Not exactly 13 years but pretty close to 156k so, just bump up your driving from 12k a year to 15k a year and it is pretty dam close.

Also, one of your assumptions is gasoline will be at 4.20 for the next 15 years. It is a nice thought but not really any facts to back it up.

On other other hand in your favor; the time value of money. If you were to invest the difference between the civic and volt on day one the pay off period would be even longer.

Trust me I agree with you, I wrote a paper Senior year in college on the inefficenices of hybrid vehicles, but don’t claim to have all your bases covered.

I think some are overlooking the point that this is the first step to a great idea that could possibly lead to the next generation of automobiles. And by that I mean as popular as hybrids are now. I am not saying entirely taking over the market.

When new technology first comes out its always expensive. They have to be sure that people are going to buy it before they sell it cheap.

Blu-dray burner at time of release $4000. I can now for less then $200 buy a blu-ray burner for my computer. the same thing will happen with the lithium batteries. as they sell more units like this, the prices will go down as technology advances. What are they suposed to do, twiddle their thumbs and hope the magic market fairy lowers the price without demand.

The are tons of concepts, classics and other stuff downstairs so I might make a trip down tomorrow with a camera.
