Good computer builders?

Ok, so maybe Im out of my realm, but I checked the dell outlet, and they have a quad core for 439. Can’t i just buy that then upgrade the internals?

work throwing old computers out? someone you know must have a spare laying around. Try to get as many free parts as you can.

if you were closer, I think I still have a case with a DVD rom in it laying around that you could just have. No frills and it’s not real attractive, but you could always upgrade later

yeah, you can do that long as you don’t plan on oc’ing

that whole OC’ing thing is out of my realm. I dont want to risk running something that isnt meant for it. Id rather pay for more power than try and OC, and im always willing to drive for free things!

You cant buy a dell and expect to upgrade anything. They are completely proprietary parts and the motherboards are built for the parts they install.

I’ve seen a dell that came with only one additional PCI slot, no IDE controllers at all (not like you need em anymore) and NO headers on the motherboard for additional USB or even firewire ports. They build em for exactly what they spec.

So, if you buy a dell with onboard video… dont expect it to have a PCI-X slot to buy a video card!

Buying a dell gaming system will cost a lot, and those are the only ones that you really can buy and expect what you want. Not worth it…

here ya go buddy, just happened to “stumble” this site. Sounds like it’s right up your alley

Interesting how it is dated March 3rd, yet it uses a motherboard that is over 12 months old, and it isn’t utilizing a 32MB cache hard drive, or a 9600GT instead of an 8600GT…

Guess the guy REALLY wanted to get it to around $500 :stuck_out_tongue:

I had an issue of PC Magazine or PC World back in 2003 that explain how to build a PC. Not hard just what goes where, and taught me everything I know now. My rig got old, and didnt feel like building a new one since PC gaming isnt as good as it used to be and got a bomb laptop with a 8600 for cheap.

howd cheap did you pick one up with a 8600?

When you see the prices of dells on slickdeals.net, you can buy one and make a very nice computer.

I’ve seen the quad core intel dells, with pci express cards for dirt cheap.

Stick 4gb of ram in them, and its the fastest computer that anyone would need for anything.

I’ll repeat it again… You can’t buy the parts from newegg for even close to as cheap as dell sells them for… Add in a copy of vista and its not even close.

Checking the site out right now, thanks for the input

not bad… not bad at all :tspry:

upgrade the vid card and memory later if ya want

go for it

think that will allow for vid upgrades? or must I get a bigger psu?

yeah, you can deff upgrade. The PSU should be ok too if you go to something like an 8800, but investing in a nice quality unit isn’t a bad idea either.

that really is a very decent deal for all you get. And that comes with a 24" monitor too?

Yeah, 24inch mon, but it says integrated graphics, so im not sure if I want this, or the gateway with the vidcard already in there

I’d personally stay away from Vista, and Definitely go with at least 2 gigs of RAM MINIMUM!!!

long as it has a PCIe slot
