Good website hosting company?

Ive had a few people ask me to make them webpages lately, does anyone have a suggestion on a good place to host them from? Im looking for something that has a decent layout of their options - setting permissions, FTPing files, viewing and modifying databases, etc.

I did a site hosted on sagemind and I really liked their useability, but when I signed up for an account of my own, I never got my access. I created customer service tickets about it but got no response. After that I tried godaddy, but that has to be the single worst designed interface in existance. Their normal website is cluttered to begin with, it takes too many steps to get to your hosting control panel, and once you are there, you cant do anything. Setting permissions is a nightmare, you have to keep jumping around and re-signing into sections, and its been “unable to connect” for a week now, Im totally sick of it.

So if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. Thanks.

godaddy?? hahaha

my site was on bravenet, and was easy to do anything i wanted on

i could be in editing HTML or images after going thru maybe 4 pages, login page, an account front page, select subdomain, select file, and do the editing

could have like 30 emial addy’s, a load of subdomains, and a bunch of other options

^truth, it was nice. it was something like $8.99 a month to keep it, plus purchasing the domain name.

:headbang:

That would be fine except it belongs to JnJs friend and Jay used him to steal wnyfbody. Id be very suprised if he didnt know what was going on, because JnJ wasnt smart enough to do that on his own, and it isnt worth the risk to me with other people’s business data to be in the same location as that.

I use phpwebhosting / sagemind…

but i can probally just use one fo my work servers now.

www.hostrocket.com

this is true…

on to the next

Looks like someone with a co-located box w000 w000 baller

Anyways…Unless your doing php/sql driven pages or something that gets a ton of hits all those hosting places are about the same.

One of the 3 will have alot of that

Hrm, let me see what’s up with sagemind, PM me with what went on.

www.hostgator.com

Great host. Great support. Never had any problems.

http://www.incheckhost.com/

and they are local

Thanks Howie, Haner just got ahold of me. I hadnt realized it was still his, I had no idea how to get ahold of him. I’ll see what he says and then go from there.

1&1

www.olm1.com

Local, $10/month, great service.

i use hostitnow.com and textdrive.com

hostitnow has a pretty amazing $6/mo deal right now, 1GB storage 75GB bandwidth.

Their reliability is questionable, I’ve experienced about 95% uptime but audios’ site is hosted with them as well and I’ve had to make various calls on his behalf to them about server downtime.

textdrive has great reliability and much more server control. $99/yr

5 hosted domains 5GiB storage 5GiB/month bandwidth

So if you want to host media, hostitnow has very good prices…

OLM1 tends to suck as far as storage/bandwidth/price…not to mention their server control kinda sucks…I would not recommend them, they’re customer service though is very good.

That incheck host seems like a pretty good deal

Sagemind is reliable as hell, have never had a problem with them

That hostrocket micah posted looks nice, 2 yr contract though. Also I’m always a bit weary about places that offer “unlimited” bandwidth.

pkmawebtronics.com looks pretty shitty in terms of storage space allowed. 50MB is def. not a lot.

i just found out my free 1and1 account has now been changed to merely a 3 year preview which is about to expire, so i’m host shopping too.
don’t have much to add.
i’ve heard dreamhost is good.
i’ve had bad experiences with a few others but i’ve blocked out their names.
