Well, since I continue getting questions about this I may as well update this some…
So since knowing Nick (FocusinProgress) I’ve been busting his chops to finish his CB550 build that’s been on hold for many years now…with that being said after he saw my bike up and running after a complete makeover that took two years he finally decided to get his ass in gear. I also convinced him to go the most logical route, 674cc! Now, I can’t let a close friend have more power than me so I decided to also build a 674cc kit for my bike which is never completely “finished” even though I had the pleasure of riding it all season and taking it on long trips and such so obviously why not take it apart! Now we are both supporting each other to get our 550’s completed again. Now Nick won’t have an excuse when I pull him around a track with the same power!
I’m restructuring some stuff so I have some tricks up my sleeve. Back in late December/early January I ordered Devin’s prototype rear hub that is designed to use a brembo rotor and caliper.

Stoked to see what this thing does with more power and more brakes!
Mhmmm, lester’s and Bulleit.
Organized the shop some:
In case anyone is looking for anything particular…I’m friends with a local vintage motorcycle enthusiast who has a ton of old stock:
Also picked up this minty NOS tank that’s never been used! Still has the oil coating on the inside from the factory. This will be going on another build I have in the works:
At this point, still waiting on a bunch of parts to come in.
^Yup! haha. I saw that, I’ll probably end up with Brembo’s for the front hence why I went that route…wanted them to match. A buddy of mine in Cali has a prototype Beringer dual disc setup on his CB550. Supposedly they will be developing these for our bikes. If so, I’d pick up a set for my CB500! They look really nice.
I could never go back to not having a truck. Asking people for truck favors sucks dude!
Total weight is 2lbs heavier than stock but it’s also thick billet aluminum…hopefully I’ll be able to shave weight off elsewhere since I’m adding an extra brake up front and now one in the rear as well.
There was a slight oil weep on one of the gaskets so I decided to re-torque the head down to ensure this was resolved before selling. Started her up Sunday, revved it a bunch and boom, no weep so out came the motor and everything else.
Please excuse the mess:
Picked this fairing cheap for one of my other CB’s…doesn’t look terrible in my opinion:
Also somehow picked up a 77’ CB750F that is ugly but has some nice parts on it…it was a good deal so I had to…will be selling it once I mess around with it some:
This came in today as well:

Also, awaiting for the following to arrive to my doorstep…
I don’t know why, but I actually really like that. Very 70’s, TZ750-esque.
That’s pretty. Are you going to finish it? How, if so? I’ve ordered all of my anodizing chemicals and I’m going to do some test runs on some 6061 in the next week, hopefully. I’m going to anodize my hubs to [hopefully] match the Beringer gold. Speaking of Devin; after you placed your order, how long did it take to ship? Just trying to get a ballpark. He asked me for some steering bearing measurements around the first and I haven’t heard back yet. I suppose I have to wait for my custom spokes from Buchannan’s anyhow. That’s probably a good two weeks. Not in much of a rush. Just want it done for Spring.
I’ve been curious about these. Not doing much for electrical on the Triumph, but I’d like to build a CX500/GL500 or some other super goofy import next. With EFI. And maybe one of those thingies.
I like that fairing as well! Wasn’t bad for the price…
Was actually talking to Newman last night when I stopped by his place in regards to the hub finish…my front CM hub I bought used (but new) and is powder coated black. I’d like to remove the PC and anodize that to match the rear hub pictured above. Thinking about a titanium color sorta with SS spokes/nipples and black hoops. Let me know how your stuff goes…maybe you can do my set as well! haha. I definitely would like to steer away from powder on the hubs this time around. I also will be having my outer fork tubes anodized in black and having the inners TiN coated. Still need to source a place for this…
I built my wiring harness from scratch which took over 25 hours…literally but I said hell with that this time around. I have to switch it up as the new motor is electric start only (lame I know, sucks) and add in a couple little things so I said heck with it…let’s see what the rave is about. Nick (FocusinProgress) will be hopefully going EFI on his café build and he also went with a MotoGadget setup.
Good news. My acid finally showed up. Just waiting on some free time from work and for the NaOH to show up to complete the chemical collection. Hoping to actually anodize some shit next week.
