HDMI out for computer

I’m looking to add HDMI out capabilities to my computer. My computer is an HP p6644y. Would it be better to add a video card or are there usb options?

DO you have DVI out of the computer?

No I don’t.

I’d go video card. Looks like you’d need a PCI Express x16 card.

What are you looking to do with it? Media center? Just put your desktop on a TV for web surfing? Play games on the big screen?

I’ve got a home media computer running on a 58" tv @ 1080p sitting about 11-12’ away and I’d still much rather web surf on my laptop. It’s amazing for movies and youtube vids though.

This would be for a media center type of application, no games.

Get yourself an nvidia geforce card then, something in the GT series with 1GB of ram and watch it play any file you can throw at it through XMBC.

There are 1000’s of cards that will do what you want. I recommend nvidia because that’s what most of the XBMC developers are using so it gets the best support. I posted that one because Gigabyte builds good stuff.

Awesome, thank you very much. That’s even less than I thought I would have to spend.

Never bought one of there GPUs but I had a $160 MOBO from Gigabyte and it sucked hard.

But yes, that card will work nicely.

I would go with a GT 430 fanless personally but the one Jay linked will be just as good.
