Walter, you quoted me using the quote function, but then when you quoted me in text using “” you got it all wrong. You suck so bad sometimes… it makes me wonder how you even log in. I never told him to buy VRAM… where would he put it? It comes with the video card… but you wouldn’t understand the concept of a GPU taking away tasks from a CPU because it is more powerful in certain situations. I’m not even going into fact or theory about system memory with you, because the weather is much too nice to waste my time.
LZ - So… you don’t have a decent home PC, and you also don’t have any valuable input in this thread. Do your datacenters run Photoshop well? Are you dealing with a $600 budget? Does anything you have done in the last year even remotely relate to anything in this thread?
Dj - There are several documented cases where a core2duo outperformed the core2quad and where the core2duo was also keeping up with the i7 in several applications. This is based on dollars spent and speed/performance returned and at times, overall performance (without taking value into account) was still pretty similar.
Why would he want extra RAM when less VRAM would perform the same functions quicker using the GPU? 800MB of VRAM on a GTX260 would crush an i7 with 4gb of RAM in photoshop. Everything I’ve read about Folding, and articles on TOMs and EVGA can’t be wrong…
No you fucking waste of life, you told him to buy a video card with more RAM, also known as telling him he should be spending his money on buying more video RAM. Just fucking kill yourself you fucking retard :suicide:
News flash, he isn’t building a computer to be a loser and play video games like yourself. He said photography, learn to read. You are a fucking worthless stupid hick who can’t seem to understand that every time he posts the world gets a bit dumber, shit, even Just Karter can make you look like a fool.
You’re fucking wrong. There is absolutely NO REASON for him to spend more money on a video card than on system memory, just quit posting.
I could go on, but I’ll give you the cliff notes version…
BUY AS MUCH SYSTEM MEMORY AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN, PREFERABLY 12GB. SPEND AS LITTLE AS ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE ON THE VIDEO CARD GETTING SOMETHING ONLY STRONG ENOUGH TO SUPPORT YOUR MONITOR/RESOLUTION COMBINATION.
You’re so ignorant… and you’re assuming everyone else is too. Click on any of those links -
Almost 2 years old.
"i7 and a gaming card should be more than enough. Photoshop doesn’t suffer from as many gaming-card related bugs as intensive 3D programs like 3dMax and Maya. The Quadro cards are much slower per price-point. "
“You should use an nVidia card as CS4 benefits from CUDA acceleration”
“I know you won’t be doing any gaming, but this GPU is on Adobe’s list of tested graphics cards for GPU acceleration in Photoshop CS4 - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405711.html This card also expels hot air out of the case to help with case temps.”
"On graphics card, I agree with Yosty that you should go to the faster graphics card than you had. "
Since you’re back on the ignore list… I’m not going to bother with the big red font… or even personal blows. Looks like you’re taking care of that for me.
I agree though… if he was going with an i7, he would have the power to push a lot of RAM at the speeds it would require to be useful. 64bit OS is the only route… but you still need a decent CPU and MOBO TO USE THE RAM. 12gb of memory doesn’t run by itself… you fucking moron. Anyone else in this thread using a home PC with 6gb of memory @ 1600mhz or better? Anyone actually even research all the problems people are having with machines with over 6gb and the fact that they are OC’ing the CPU to get the advertised speeds out of their RAM?
Back to the budget… if you’re doing a fresh build, just don’t listen to Walter. He is useless. Yes, he searched for photoshop on Toms… but he failed to read any of the responses and actually analyze any of the data presented to him. None of those people were building $600 machines. If you were going i7, the RAM is cheap… buy it. If you can’t afford i7, either wait, or buy a decent gfxcard to take on some or most of the load.
Lurk slickdeals.net, find a prebuilt rig with like, 6GB, 1TB HDD.
The 2 most important things you’re going to want :
RAM
retarded amounts of striped hard drive space, with some redundancy. Read as : RAID5.
Since 2 really isn’t in your budget at this time, a single drive will be your ultimate bottleneck for most systems. The processor, not so much, I mean, get something decently fast, but for photo and video editing, fast access to storage is highly underrated and neglected.
See : our graphics designer pegging 4GB fiber bandwidth from the SAN when he decided to cut HD movies.
Edit : Fuck, this is just for photos. Fuck. Ok, the fast drives aren’t that necessary. However, RAM def, and unless your editing HUGE RAW 15 MEGAPIXEL FILES, you’re not really going to notice between a good Core2 Duo of Core2 Quad.
Try to use bing cashback also to save yourself some money. Or even sign up for fatwallet.com and use their cashback system. Yea you have to wait 60 days most times to get the money, but its cashback regardless.
when i did my $600 build 6 months ago i jumped on the quad core. Q9550.
What a fucking moron. You can’t even read you illiterate tool. Nice try. :bloated:
You’re right, video cards and RAM are so important they aren’t even mentioned on Adobe’s system requirements page outside of needing a 16-bit video card… what idiots, man, they should have checked with you before posting that stuff… morons.
1.8GHz or faster processor
Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 (Service Pack 3 recommended) or Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise with Service Pack 1 (certified for 32-bit Windows XP and 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista) 512MB of RAM (1GB recommended)
1GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on flash-based storage devices) 1,024x768 display (1,280x800 recommended) with 16-bit video card - This is seriously what you’re basing your argument on? Some GPU-accelerated features require graphics support for Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0
DVD-ROM drive
QuickTime 7.2 software required for multimedia features
Broadband Internet connection required for online services*
Keep digging… you fucking douche.:suicide:
512/1GB recommended… yeah. LOAD UP ON THE RAM!!! You want at least 1GB!!! :feck:
You’re too fucking thick to know what is needed, and what will work best on a $600 budget. Get off your high horse and get out of this thread. I didn’t think you were the type of guy who buys a product based on the minimum system specs. Clearly, you’re encouraging someone else to.
Don’t plan on using the 3d editing features at all? They will cripple onboard video. If thats the case… minimum specs will get you by, but if you’re maxing your money… ask tech support @ Adobe. Not NYSpeed. There are a lot of people who get by with 2gb, or 4… and there are people who say they can’t get by with any less than 8 because they are using 6. It boils down to what you’re doing.
Great deal. You’ll get the Quad core… and decent RAM and still have money for a decent video card.
Do us a favor, buy it. Run PShop on it.
Report back.
Borrow my video card. (Totally worth risking a $550 card for argument sake )
Report back.
Add the GTX260 and have a great overall rig.
Make sure you can add that vid card to this PC (or any decent card for that matter). Sometimes the HPs and DELLs of the world are harder to upgrade than they are worth.
w/that I this this thread is finished.
Nothing he has mentioned doing could not be handled by an on-board or entry level card. PURE AND SIMPLE. THAT IS A FACT.
Also learn to read, I never told him to get 12GB of RAM.
You are the one that said
You’re a moron. You are retarded.
Lets have a quick recap of the thread since your pea-brain can’t handle it.
At which point you go off telling him he needs some huge video card that WILL NOT BE UTILIZED.
Pure and Simple. Dollar for dollar, his money would be better spent on SYSTEM MEMORY and he shouldn’t worry about getting a high performance video card FOR PHOTOSHOP PERIOD.
You have no idea what you’re talking about. You’ve proven it over and over.
I GUARANTEE HE WOULD NOT NOTICE ONE IOTA OF PERFORMANCE INCREASE FROM SWAPPING VIDEO CARDS TO EDIT PHOTOGRAPHS. I’ve done it plenty of times to know…
