Help with a letter, or other suggestions.

Some of you know I was shorted my time and a half from my last job. I called NYS Dept. of labor and they sent me the forum to fill out.
Only problem is, The paper work says I have to ask for my unpaid wages before they can help.
I was going to write a letter and send it certified mail, give them 10 days then fill out the paper work if I dont hear anything.

I’m not really sure how to write the letter.

Dear xxx

Its recently come to my attention that I was paid time, not time and a half. So I am owed 1/2 time. From the pay check stubs I have I believe I am owed $ xxx.xx.

Anyone got anything better?

I would say something like:

Dear Fuckup:

Prior to my dismissal, there was a mistake made in my pay. As per the attached photocopied paystubs from the period(s) in question, I was paid insert explanation here. I should have been paid insert explanation here.

I trust that you will by the end of this week so that we can avoid action by the department of labor. Thank you in advance.

^I was going to say, definately use the words DEPARTMENT OF LABOR somewhere in your letter. :smiley:

And definitely don’t say, “I believe I should have been paid…”.

“I believe” makes it sound like you don’t know for sure and no one is going to take you serious if they think you’re not even sure if you’re right.
