throw that flapper away, junk… get an external
yeah just get a bigass tial and be done
I would love to but…Cams, springs and retainers put me back some $$$$
A HAFE manifold and 38mm would finish the bullshit for you LL.
It would also be a now and later thing useful going forward as well… assuming you stay with a bolt on turbine housing. Which there are enough options out there to choose from.
But again, thats another $450.
So after waiting on my new air die grinder and porting bits I finally pull the turbo off.
GUESS WHAT.
there was a small casting imperfection in the MHI 16g that only let the waste gate flapper arm open about 5-6 mm
thats right.
so thats prolly all it was. took 1 min to grind off. could have done it with the turbo still on the car,
but while its off…I have been porting away.
pretty sure this will fix the boost creep.
I got your cometic, springs/retainers, turbo bolts and o2 stud. I’ll bring it home tonight.
Try and keep the head ON the car this time mmmmmk?
its still creeping even after porting out the turbo, and cleaning up some casting perfections so, i got some 780cc injectors and will be going from a 190lph to a 255hp pump, so now when it quits creeping at 24 psi, I’ll be able to deal with it.
Well, might as well set the boost to 24 then. No reason to let it creep that high at high RPM. Just set it and hit 24 at 3400.
I still suggest
better sell yourself on the corner for a week then go buy a bigass tial like 20000mm
If it creeps that bad when it’s above freezing you’ll see 30psi when it’s 5 deg outside.
I vote finish your port job, but most people seem to be suggesting the external. your call. I like a cleaner/more stock looking setup when possible.
eh. its too the point where just get something that will fix it.
Lazy, I got an extra 1g manifold if you want to port it and grind an edge down. Then you can just get a 38mm and weld the flange on the corner of the manifold.
Wouldn’t be the greatest looking situation, but, it sure as hell would work.
Plus its not like you couldn’t use a 38mm WG later with another setup, car, etc. Pick up a 255, and a 38mm tial and the IN/OUT flanges. I’ll just give you the manifold. I’m definately not Jeff, but I’m sure I could weld it up well enough not to leak.
Its ghetto as hell, but, if you keep creeping to infinity… you’re going to lose a motor.
I welded my 38mm gate flange to my EVO III manifold. No leaks, no cracks, looked good.
I hate doing it this way… but, in this case he’s got to so something.
You can only pull so much timing…
:dunno:
:ugh2:
gone are the 550’s and 190
upgraded the fuel system to a hp 255 and 6an lines from the tank to the rail 780cc injectors with an aeromotive afpr, so I should be good on fuel to take all 38lbs a minute that the turbo can flow.
that being said I also got a SBR cast manifold flanged for a 38mm wastegate and a Tial 38mm w/g that dumps to atmosphere.
so, I should be all set now.
woot congrats. hopefully that takes care of it for you
