Well, not a new vehicle, a used one.
I picked up a 1996 Ford F150 XL 4x4…300 straight 6 with a 5 speed. 84K miles on it. Those here who know me know i am no fan of Fords, and also i am not really all that fond of pickup trucks(at least for use as a daily driver). Well, the price seemed right to me, and most people tend to agree that Ford makes a pretty good truck. Plus this will not be a daily driver. Mostly will be a my snow vehicle, plus moving and hauling and such.
It is a dog, but otherwise drives OK. It has dual tanks, and i filled both of them after i bought it, and it took 30 GALLONS to fill both tanks.(i think the combined total capacity is 37). Right now the only thing i want to do for sure is put a cap on it. Plus give it a good detailing. It could used buffed with a good paint cleaner, as the finish is a little dull. Cleaner and Zaino will bring the shine out, and the first warm day i will take care of that.
i would say that the 300 is the best ford engine made. it has 0 power, but last forever.
x2 but have decent torque. better than 302 in truck IMO
I’ve got a '94 4x4 F150 with the dual tanks and a 5.0. It’s expensive to fill them both up at the same time but then again it will tow or carry anything that I want to.
Check your rear spring mounts, they’re probably rusty by now.
did your break too? damn rivits
time for a short throw on that beast
knock down those shift times
i used to have a 1986 F150, it was a tank, fun to drive.
that truck will last to 250K if you treat it right. best engine ever. and tranny will last also. great truck.
No, both rear spring mounts were like swiss cheese from rust. We ground out all the rivets and replaced all four brackets and the shackles with new OEM parts and then used grade eight nuts and bolts on everything. I have to have a solid rear end if I’m going to tow anything with the truck. Next I have to replace all four shocks and all the bushings.
a 302 has about the same torque just a little higher in the rpm range and a lot more hp. 302>300 6cyl
reliability is for pussies. If it’s not a daily driver and just a snow toy put a real engine in there.
I am selling my 390 big block if you want it. It will really wake up your truck.
BTW - nice find. ford truck>*.truck
cool truck , those are handy to have around
