awesome idea.
I would be lying if I said that the thought hadn’t crossed my mind

If you’re not going to keep the car more than another year you could probably get away with a sticker from somewhere else however when you goto renew your registration if it hasn’t been inspected they won’t let you re register it.
It’ll pop up on a plate scanner though. I drive through one a week in the summer months personally.
Are they doing that?
My understanding was that is primarily used for expired reg/insurance and actual crimes.
Yes, don’t park an uninspected vehicle on a public road either FYI.
Can you clear the check engine light? If so, does it come back immediately?
Had this happen to me a few years ago. We were heading in opposite directions on a country road so the only way they could have known was through the scanners.
Some cars are set in NYS computers to not need any readiness to pass inspection. I know some Volvo models are on that list, but NYS won’t ever release what cars are and aren’t exempt from readiness. I would clear it and pull into a place just to see. That’s if the safety is up to par enough for a Valvoline or Delta. If you fail, oh well. If you pass, game on.
i’ve done stickers swap at least 10+ times and never been pulled from plate scanning. use a heat gun to heat it up and it should come off in one piece. every time when i go to get inspection without a sticker, the guy always gave me the WTF look lol, but they can’t refuse service just because the sticker is not present.
I sent him a PM with a cheap option about a sticker. Didn’t get a response
He’s already thinking about a Honda…
I asked a cop friend, and he said that inspection is not yet tied in with their plate scanners. I’m the king of not inspecting my summer cars, and they only denied my reg renewal once. I don’t think they do that for cars with historical plates because I still have a 10-day on one car from 2010! I’m going to get one this year I swear.
BTW, soak a rag in Brake-kleen, hold it on the sticker for a minute, peel it off and stick in on wax paper. It should retain it’s adhesive. Some guy showed my once at a junkyard. They usually peel the stickers before they bring the cars out but sometimes they forget.
