Ice Racing 2007

As some of you know, me and a couple buddies started up a small shop here in the city to support our racing habbit. While we have yet to start selling stuff, We have started building cars and racing. I guess thats why they call it motorsport and not motorbusiness. Oh well, anyway. We are running 3 cars this year, a 79 colt #13 and 2 Civics #s 94 and 95. The first race of the year was this week end. The colt didn’t make it out, but the 95 car did really well going from 15th to 5th in the first race and finishing second in the second race of the day. Not bad for a brand new race car on its first race weekend. Here are some pictures, the gallery belongs to the owner of another car we support. Its a Fiat with a CBR 1100XX motorcycle engine in the passanger seat :E. I thought with all the drifters around here you guys might want to check it out. The RWD cars running in the studded classes put on some extreamly high quality high speed drifts. 200km/h on ice anyone ?

cool photos. where was this ice racing taking place?

haha Richard was telling me about the dude with the motor bike engine in the pass seat. That sounds cool. Id love to get into some ice battle!!!

It takes place just south of camrose, if any of you guys are interested there is a race on both saturday and sunday this week end. Speedway will have our 3 cars out for sure for both days, if the fiat is running correctly it should be there aswell. The NASCC just posted the offical results It looks like we are 1st in street stud with the fiat and 3rd in rubber with the civic. We are just about done installing a the turbo setup on the civic so this coming week end should be interesting for sure.

Its getto… extreamly getto… But we built it with what we had on hand, in a way that it wouldn’t be damaged by a snow bank or other car, hopefully anyway… The car has a big hole cut in the hood now… its not exactly show quality lets just say that.

If any of your guys are actually interested ice racing is likley the cheapest wheel to wheel style racing you can get involved with. We built the 94 car for less then $1000. PM me if you have any questions about getting involved.

Well another race weekend down… Sadly we took a lot of damage to the cars this week end. The colt might be going to the scrap yard after we take a closer look. A hard impact on the front end damaged the bodywork and broke the car’s oil cooler. It had to limp back to the pits on 10psi oil pressure. For a engine with such high cooling requirements that normally runs around 90psi oil pressure its not really looking good. Here are some pictures for you guys. I will throw up video as soon as I get it up on the website.

Hey, Great to see you guys are diving into the action!

Are you running any more races this winter? I’d drive down to Camrose if it fits between hockey games!

Cheers,
Dan

Sadly we are done racing in camrose for this year, all that is left is the western canada championship race weekend in lac la bich in 2 weeks. I figure we are still in second place for rubber and ice. We are throwing in a more powerfull engine for the finals. With people coming from all over western canada there should be a lot of quick cars. If you still have a lot of interest in it we have a weblog of what has been happing on the shop website here.

Who says FWD can’t drift. This is our car that is in the top 3 in points right now. (Flat Black honda)

Great stuff! Thanks for the post.

I won’t be able to make it up to LaBiche on March 3rd, although it would be a blast! Have fun.

Did I see Julian’s Fastiva in one of the clips?

Cheers,
Dan

Yup, he has actually been running really close to us in points all season.

Cool. He’s a good driver. The modest looking car/ young driver combination raises a few eyebrows when lap times are being compared.

Dan

He is a cheater, he has been racing since he was really young. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been meaning to ask what type of safety requirements does your car need to have to get into this racing?

You car has to be fully race prepped with a full roll cage and driver safety gear. More detailed information can be found here. If your looking for help building the car our shop is experiance in doing so, we built 3 cars for use this season. The #95 car is currently second in its class with only a couple months devlopment time.

If your really interested be ready to spend around 4K for your first season including building the car, new tires, race licencing and car fees, transport ect. Its next to nothing compaired to getting active in the improved touring series in the summer which can be upwards of $5000.00 in fees alone.

Also Speedway may have a car open to a rookie driver for free as of next year. It needs a little work but the car has won several ice racing championships in the past so its all ready race proven. Serious inquires only please.

Well the ice racing year is now finished. We took 3 cars to the western canada finals this week end and I am happy to report that all three cars brought back prize money. The fiat took 2nd in the limited stud class and the 95 civic taking 3rd in rubber to ice. I belive that we are still second in points for the NASCC ice racing season with the 95 aswell. Sadly we were unable to race on sunday due to heavy snow in the morning. But all in all I can’t complain considering that our brand new race team placed so well in our first season.

Now that we are finished with the racing season it will give us some time to finish up the shop and maybe even hold a grand opening. I will let you guys know when it happens.

Blingity Bling…
