when i bought my car there was a spare DOHC 5 speed ECU in the trunk and i thought it was just a stock one, but i opened it up the other day and its different than all the other ones i’ve seen.
it has a couple chips on a separate circuit board that plugs into what looks like a computer IDE cable on the main board. also the chips have some hand writing on them, i forget what it says right now and the ECU is at my shop. if no one knows what i mean then i’ll get a pic of it next time i’m there.
does anyone know what i’m talking about here? it looks like just a regular DOHC 5 speed ecu from the outside, regular number 28 on it.
from my research online into daughterboards, those look ike EEPROM emulators.
From my understanding, when turned on, the ECU pulls map data and tuning info from those addtional EEPROMs rather then the on-board EEPROMs. I think it is like a simple version of a megasquirt or bikirom daughterboard.
i bought an auto ecu for my manual, and i was looking through, i wanna chip mine, so i was curious. but i have a ?, i’m looking at the ecu and there is a little dial on it, like something from an amp for subs. what is it and what does it do? anyone know?
