Its chopper time!

are you going to keep the same color scheme? digging the handle bars

Im SOOO glad you kept the ape hanger style … Ape hangers FTMFW!! (I have them on my bike! :idb: )

Paint Idea keeps changing. I think I have to have it a little more complete and sand blasted down. Then just look at it for a while.

Plenty of people have tried to talk me out of the ape hangers. :nono:

must say i passed a flat black with alot of chrome with ape hangers. fuckin awesome lookin with red LED tail lights and red LED turn signals.

Sweet! I was wondering about that bike, too. That front sprocket is offset 1/2" so you should have no problem getting a chain on with that wheel. Does the new wheel have 1" or 7/8" bearings? The frame was set up for a Buell 1" axle. (Harleys have 7/8)

Can’t wait to see it on the road!

awesome

You probably have a very good idea of how much it sucks at this point. I just want it done and be able to ride it at this point!

I thought that sprocket looked offset. I talked to Worx before I got the wheel and tire. They said I will need a .900" offset. We’ll see when I get it in there. I need to get a non offset rear and try it out. Are you sure the buell isn’t the 7/8"? The buell axle fits sloppy in my new wheel. I remember you guys saying something about slightly different sizes between buell and harley. I just figured I would need a harley axle. Can I just get 7/8" bearings to put in my new wheel? or can I put the old bearing from the buell wheel in the harley wheel?

Yeah. That was one of the hardest parts. Figuring out how to line everything up in the back. Did you get the wheel from mcworx? If so, you should be able to use buell bearings and axle.

The Buell definitely has a bigger axle and bearings than HD. The original rear pulley was also a specially machined sportster pulley to fit that wheel. The axle will fit sloppy in any wheel. There is a spacer that slides over the axle - between the bearings.

Keep the offset sprocket. You need that. The frame was designed to use that sprocket for a 250 tire. It’s also an 883 sportster sprocket for a little more off the line.

First, try the bearings and spacer from the Buell wheel. If they don’t fit, you’ll need to go with a 7/8 axle and might need to rework the axle sliders in the frame. Roll-on cycles in Oakdale can get any size sprocket spacer you need.

Well, I need to get a 1/4" spacer for the sproket. I’m going to have the one you guys had remachined. The buell axle is the smaller size. I need to get a harley axle and step the frame up a pinch in the back. Unless I can interchange buell bearing into the harley wheel. I have yet to knock them out and try. I’m not sure where that going to leave me with the rear brake. We’ll see when I get the axle situated. I know the rotor wont fit the harley hub. I’m also looking at harley 19" or 21" front laced wheels. I think thats going to nessatate getting the buell forks bored out to accept the harley axle.

just remembered about the handlebars too
the buell controls were on 7/8 bars. so if you look at the original bars they had a step in them. standard harley bars were 1 inch but buell used 7/8.

Ya, I wish I didn’t throw the old bars out! I’m having a hell of a time finding 7/8 tube anywhere! The bars I have on there are 1"

No brakes, use your feet!

Looks good, I’ll have to come check it out sometime.

lemme look to see if i have 7/8 peice lying around still. i think i got it at metal supermarket?? don’t need that much of it just enough for the controls.

Trying to remember all the details on the rear axle. Google helped.
Buell axle: 7/8"
2004-earlier sportster 3/4"
2005-later sportster 1"

metal supermarkets didn’t have any 7/8" last week.

Looking really good Jay!

You keepin’ it old school with mid pegs & apes? … Or forwards controlls?

Thanks Brian.

It think I’m going to be putting the controlls on the front motor mounts. I also think that makes them “forward” right? I rode it before it was wrecked and that where they where. It was super comfy. There will be a rear set of pegs though. I cant find any sence in making a scooter that you cant at least take a hot chick around the block once.

One another good note. The bearings from the buell wheels are the same O.D. as the harley bearings. They went right in my new wheel so I don’t have to find another axle and modify the frame for it. As soon as I can get some front motor mounts I can finish straightining the frame. I went to Infamous choppers during lunch today but the lights where out and no one was home. Where is a bike shop that will have harley shit in stock thats close enough to Carnegie to go on lunch?

go to roll on cycle in oakdale
it is close to you it is right off noblestown road it is right past steele autobody
