Please continue to make threads like this, the forum needs it.

Awesome stuff.

It’s the LBC…lol. Nice pics. There were a lot more of those cars sold out there and they lasted a lot longer. Have a show like that here and you’d have twelve cars.

lol old school jdm is dat krak for joe

This is my fav, looks like Mr. Incredibles car

Cars like that only survive in Cali

I’d have to agree, but there were a decent number of Japanese cars at the Larz Anderson Museum All Japanese car Show last September. This is a much smaller than the west coast show, but is the only such event in the eastern US.

This was a great show and it couldn’t have been during a better time of year, or have had better weather. I’m an old schooler, and as such I have to say that I was it was unfortunate that there wasn’t a single early Subaru or Honda in attendance. Kind of a shame if you ask me. But Datsun, Toyota, and Mazda guys were all in luck, as there were quite a few of them on hand. I only took a few pics, [mostly video] but here is a sampling for you all.

They had some Japanese exchange students there dressed in their native attire and they were demonstrating caligraphy for all who requested it. Many cars on the showfield had examples of their work on their windshields.

Although I don’t have a picture, there was also a really neat Mazda REPU there. REPU stands for Rotary Engine Pickup Truck. These rare Mazda’s were very special for their time. Unlike the standard piston engine Mazda pickups, these were the “Sport” models. They had the 13B rotary engine, wider fender flares, factory tach, wood grain dash, bucket seats, etc. Also, there were really nice examples of early RX7’s, one of which had 19,000 original miles! There was a really clean Toyota SR5 Lift Back there too. The gent came all the way from Long Island [including a ferry ride] to show it.

Then there was this car [above] that won people’s choice for the show. It was an early Toyota Corona. This thing was mint and super rare.
All show participants received a goodie bag containing free samples of car waxes, polishes, an event dash plaque, coupons for a free bottle of Sta-Bil gas stabilizer, maps pens, etc. A very nice touch by the organizers.
Yes there were all sorts of great newer Japanese cars there too, but in this post I am focusing on the old school cars I saw. The organizers told me that this show is continuously growing each year. That’s great news. I read in the current issue of Road and Track that the Japanese cars are finally becoming more popular and recognized in the collector car community.

The B210 is mine. It’s a '77, originally from San Diego.

The engine in my Datsun B210. I bored and stroked it from the original 1398cc’s to 1608cc’s. Twin 40mm Dellorto carbs, ported head, and Crane cam.

Restored the inside of the trunk too.

Here are a few more…

Alex Grabeau brought out his awesome Mitsubishi Lancer Evo II for the show. Formerly a street car, it is now used primarily for open track events. This right hand drive Evo II is a very rare automobile. No left hand drive examples were ever built, as these were strictly Japanese domestic market cars. It would be several more years before newer models of this car were imported to and sold in the US.

Note Alex’s newly added fender flares and super wide track wheel and tire combo. These were added due to the car having so much power that wheelspin was always a problem -even with the AWD! The engine has many mods including a larger turbo, bigger injectors, etc. He said the added offset does make it steer harder, but he knocked off 6 seconds per lap off of his previous best at the last track event.

^^a link to last years lawn events list^^

not sure where brookline is tho?

Sorry for the delayed reply guys. Somehow I was not automatically subscribed to this thread, even though I posted in it. It took me a while to find it again. Thanks for the PM, 91MR2.

Brookline, MA is just outside of Boston. Being from Albany NY, I drove a 400 mile round trip in the old Datsun last September. It was well worth it! The five speed I swapped into it helped a lot with that. The 2008 schedule has not been posted yet for the Larz Anderson’s lawn shows yet, but it would be great if you guys could bring your Japanese cars out next Fall!

Mike

wow wow wow.

and I want a 510 so bad it hurts.

I had some winter fun with my '77 Datsun B210 last month. Hemmings Sports and Exotic magazine’s David Traver Adolphus has been after me to get together with him on the ice this year for a photo session with the B210, for a future article.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/blownb310/DSC04503-1.jpg

We picked a day a few weeks ago when the roads were dry so I could drive it over to Round Lake [in upstate New York] without getting it saleted up. David followed me with all of my tires and gear in his SUV.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/blownb310/DSC04505-1.jpg

The weather was perfect, and beside about three ice fishermen, we had the place all to ourselves.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/blownb310/DSC04509-1.jpg

There were several small ovals plowed there with connecting routes between them. It was about 40 degrees so the top surface was soft and chewy. Traction was outstanding. It was awesome powering through corners sideways with both side draft carbs wailing away. I was so glad to get this session in that day, because the following day we had a storm come through and the roads were all salted up again. The window of opportunity was small but we got it done!

My low resolution pics above are quite grainey. David offered to put his “money shots” on a cd and send them to me. Here are a few of them.
