Look into the 98 Grand Cherokees. Watch out for the limited editions. They came optional with the 5.9 V8 360… http://chautauqua.craigslist.org/ctd/1415347640.html . Not sure if it is the 5.9 but worth a call. Most G.C in any year come with either the I6 4.0 or 5.2 V8. The 5.2 is more than sufficient for power with G.C’s. The 4.0 however while a great engine is in my opinion suited for the Cherokee’s due to the 1000k lbs or so less weight to them in comparison to the G.C. The 5.2 has around 220hp in comparison to the 4.0 which runs at 190hp.
Edit: I must add that from 99-2004 The 5.2 was dropped and the 4.7 and 4.7HO were added. The 4.0 remained as a option through 2004. The 5.9 was only available in 98.
If it’s just gonna be a winter vehicle and your not gonna off road it then Nismo is right. If you want to drive it all year around then they are fun vehicles to have. Also there short wheel base and abillity to cheaply mod makes them great for off roading if that intrests you. But if not then go for something with a hard top. Whether it be a Grand Cherokee or something else. The wranglers even with the hard top on do not insulate very well. Thus leading to not a great winter choice.
